My wife and I are first time RVers. We have been looking at several things,
including a 2007 Gulf Stream Ultra SE. The floorplan and features of this
unit are ideal for our needs (just the two of us and our 2 little dogs!).
I've read a lot of negative comments about Gulf Stream, but I'm sure their
have to be some positives out there as well. The dealer is one that has been
in business a long time and is well respected. We feel that the price is
right on this unit but are looking for some informed opinions.

Thanks

Martin

I have absolutely NO firsthand experience with Gulf Stream

but you should give A LOT of weight to that dealership in your buying
criteria.  In most cases, a good dealership is AS important as the brand.
Good luck!

Before you buy the first thing you look at and end up sorry, rent one and
spend a week or so in it.
This will give you some idea of what you like/don/t like about the RV, which
will help you decide which RV to buy.
Just curious.......if you and your wife are first time RV'ers......how did
you decide the price was right ?
I hope it wasn't because the salesman told you it was.

You got some pretty good advice on the other NG you posted to. Follow it
and avoid Gulfstream.

Can only give my own personal experience, so here is my 1 cent worth.

I purchased a 2004 Guslf Stream BT Cruiser (Model 5210).  It sits on a
Ford E-350 chassis with the 6.8L V-10.  My wife and I couldn't be
happier with it.  It's not very large, but for the type of short trips,
and weekend outings we do, it is more than adequate for the two of us.

We've only had one quality issue.  After the first year, we noticed a
couple of "spider web" cracks had formed in the fiberglass surface, in
the upper right front corner of the unit.  Took it in to the dealer.
They took photos, sent them to Gulf Stream, and got the approval for
warranty repair, although my one year warranty had just expired!

I had an older one, made by Gulf Stream, it was a High Rise Vista, Had
little problem with it once I got it back road worthy.
Seems as though what plague all MH is setting, not getting enough use.
Things seem to go to sleep I guess. But first time rver do not buy new
any thing. That is unless they are just not skilled enough to take care
of some mechanical problems and have a lot of money. A moterhome is just
like a car, when you buy it and drive it around the block it has lost
25% of it's value. As for RV salesmen, they are all graduated used car
salesmen, tell you any thing to make the sale.

We own a GS diesel pusher and have really mixed reviews on it.  There are
number of lingering fit-and-finish issues and we've had a couple of
low-grade mechanical problems as well.  Overall, though, I'd say most of our
dissatisfaction is with the dealership's ambivalence about fixing things.

Also, they use an outfit called CoachNet to provide their 24/7 customer
roadside assistance.  The couple of times I've called them, they've been
dogs to deal with.  Make that "DOGS" with a double-woof.

On the upside, the internal aesthetics are great, the floorplan is about the
best we found and it's pretty on the outside.  The appliances are top
quality and we've had no trouble with them.

Overall, I'd say there are better machines out there, but there are worse,
too. GS is definitely a "middle-of-the-packer."  Make sure the dealer has
been in business for at least 10 years and insist on meeting the service
manager.  If he doesn't have time to meet you now, it won't get any better
when you really need him.

I'm curious why Coach Net road service has been a problem for you to
deal with?  We've had them for years and have always found them
responsive to any question we pushed at them ... and even when we NEEDED
a tow last winter.

Wondering,
