My wife and I are Brits and we are coming up for retirement. We want to rent
an RV for a couple of weeks prior to buying one for a couple of years
liveaboard, just to make sure the reality of RV'ing matches the dream we
have of touring the USA. All the rental web sites we have visited seem to
charge a huge amount of money for a couple of weeks rent ... upwards of
$2500.00 and then all the extras on top of that. Does anyone know of a
cheaper way to rent a class A?

You might conceivably find a private owner willing to rent for less -
but then you'd be dealing with someone a bit lacking in good business
sense. Considering insurance costs, risks of renting to the
inexperienced, and of course the capital investment, it simply isn't
smart to rent cheaply - you'd go broke.
Bottom line: While it will cost you to rent, it is an excellent idea
to do so. Renting is pocket change compared to buying one without
knowing whether you would like rv travel.

That is about what we paid for six years ago for about 10 days. Bought a
new one when we got home.
