Fast answer/ Check the oil level. Lots of them will not start if they are
low on oil.
Next fast click.: If it will try to start but won't stay running. Low fuel
in the tank that supplies gasoline. Built in gennies will only draw if the
regular gas tank is less than 1/4 full.

Wouldn't that be AT LEAST 1/4 FULL? <G>
If all he's getting is a 'klunk' from the starter, a corroded 12+V connection
would seem likely - although, according to Onan's Troubleshooting Guide (p.
26 of their Owners Manual) <http://www.onan.com/pdf/rv/f-1123.pdf> there may
be a blown fuse on the control panel...

Well, since I don't have that manual here at home, this is going to be a
little basic until I get a chance to read up on it tomorrow <g>. Don't know
where the 'clunk' with nothing depressed is coming from, but it sounds like
the starter drive gear may be jammed against the flywheel - which keeps the
starter from rotating, which draws a bunch of extra current, which may be
pulling the voltage at the genset and controls down far enough that it just
keeps recycling through the start command without recognizing that it has
failed.
First, unplug the control fuse - hopefully this will stop the light and
clunk.
Disconnect the battery. Reach into the air plenum accessible at the left
side of the service door and far enough back to reach the engine cooling
fan/flywheel. Grab one of the fins and try to rotate the genset - you may
have to rock it back and forth if the starter drive gear is jammed against
the flywheel, but it -should- release and let you continue rotating the
genset.
If you were able to rotate the genset, hook the battery back up, put the
control fuse back in, and see what happens.

Well my buddy tried that and no luck. He has an appointment to have it
fixed at the nearest Onan shop.
