Kris Baker - 30 Dec 2006 18:12 GMT Hello, group
New owner here, with typical stupid question. I did check archives but can't find anything like we're experiencing.
We're having a major problem and since it's a holiday weekend, we can't contact Fleetwood's customer service.
Terry Quantum 5th wheel 355RLQS.
There is a large vent in the living room ceiling that is mysteriously opening. The vent opens, the fan comes on at odd times (even apparently in the middle of the freezing night), and we can't find a way to disable it. We've turned off everything we know to turn off, removed the battery from the remote controller.....and it still came on while we were inside.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Kris

Many fans have a plug that powers them. See if you can unplug the cord, if you can, then wire the vent shut.

Hi, Jerry
Yes, we can see the fan (from the interior). We'll go take a look and see if we can unplug. I'll report back, either way.

Turn the upper knob to OFF.

If that doesn't work, or even if it does -- if it's a Fantastic Fan, you can call them at 800/521-0298 for some of the friendliest customer service you'll find anywhere.

It appears to be hard-wired in, we see no name brand on it. There's no OFF on the RSV thermostat on the FAN side, either -- only manual and auto. Neither setting keeps the vent from opening and the fan from running.
We turned it to manual, shut everything down (including the furnace to off) and buttoned up the RV. After two hours, someone called and told us the roof vent was open again. My husband went up and checked, and there it was again.....vent open, fan merrily running.
We've not only read all the manuals but organized them, in hopes of finding a clue to this problem. Nothing.

See what else that circuit breaker powers. If you can survive without that breaker on, just leave it off until you can get to a dealer/repair shop.

We figure we have an hour before it sneaks on again, so we'll start shutting down breakers/fuzes, etc. With our luck, it's wired into the brakes or something.
Since this one's only two weeks old, I'm going to expect Fleetwood to send someone out for the service call. Hopefully, they'll meet my expectations.
Thanks Kris (Hubby really likes your "shoot it" idea)

You'll have to take it to the dealer on the dealer's schedule, not yours.
I question why anyone would have high expectations of Fleetwood.
Welcome to the world of RVing.

That'd be a first. Even if I pay for it? Really? Now RVing is sounding like being a Toyota owner. Damn. I didn't think it could be *that* bad ;)

I guess they're OK if you don't have a malfunction, but if you do, all you hear from them is "but it's a TOYOTA!" (like you're lying to them or making stuff up). Our Prius is our first and last Toyota. Kris

Our Prius is our first and >last Toyota. Wow. I'm stunned. We've had several Toyotas, including our present '04 Prius (76,000 miles so far) and couldn't be more satisfied.
They've all been fabulous cars -- high mileage with no significant problems at all.

Shellback - 01 Jan 2007 02:57 GMT My Jayco dealer has made three service calls since I bought the Designer in early November. I live 40 miles away and I am a full timer and work M-F at the CG.

It's unlikely that her fan is a 120 VAC device.
Expanding on your advice, though, she could pull fuses until the fan shuts down.

Since it's probably a 12v fan. there will be no circuit breaker. A fuse maybe.
Signature Frank Tabor Anyone can make an omelet with eggs. The trick is to make one with none.

Surely the dealer showed you where the owners manuals are. There will be instruction on operating all the componants of the trailer - or there is suppose to be!! Look in the cabinets and drawers until you find the instructions.
Tom J who does read the instructions 1st - not last
