Hydrocaps

I saw a reply by the Editors in Motorhome Magazine about Hydrocaps for
the batteries. I really want AGM deep cycle batteries but no one seems
to have them but some will order them at ridiculous prices. Over a
thousand dollars to replace the problamatic lead acid jobs with their
corrosion, plus freight and tax.
The only thing I ran across was some solar outfit wanting to sell
bayonet type hydrocaps at God awful prices of 50 bucks for 6. X3 that
would be 180.00. My and I suspect everyone else's are screw in types.
Anyone sen a better deal or other alternative.

Google had bayonet type "water Miser" caps for 6@$22.50
http://store.solar-electric.com/batwatmiscap.html
It also said regular hydrocaps should be removed while fast charging.

Hydrocaps are a techology no longer answering a need.  If you
have a three stage charger, the battery will never overcharge,
and you will not need them.

My concern is the out gassing from charging typical of lead acid
batteries. I don't want the metals in the motor home's battery
compartment to have too be cleaned every little  bit.
I haven't had a battery corrosion problem with any of our autos in years.
I don't understand why motor home manufacturers don't put the same
quality batteries in them when they get a fortune for them.

You have provided so very little information, that it's difficult to
know where to start.

1. AGM batteries are not a substitute for lead acid batteries. AGM
batteries ARE lead acid batteries.

2. Hydrocaps conserve water. I'm not sure what kind of return you are
expecting from Hydrocaps, but unless water is really really expensive
where you are, I can't envision any useful purpose for such
accessories. With a properly operating electrical system, you will
only need to top up your batteries about once a year!

3. As for the gas emitted during charging; those gasses are merely
hydrogen and oxygen, i.e. water! So there's nothing to clean.

If you are having problems with excessive corrosion, etal, then you
are either overcharging or overfilling your batteries.
