Nearing the point of no return in ordering a 2007 Winnebago 29'
Outlook and since my experience has been limited to trailers I
desperately need advice on which automotive/chassis to choose: A or B

I know this has been vigorously debated in the past but not
specifically limited to Wimmebago.

A – Ford® E450 Chassis – 6.8L SOHC Triton® V10 engine, 305-hp,
automatic transmission,
Torqshift,™ 5-speed with tow/haul feature, 4-wheel ABS, 130-amp.
alternator, dual air
bags, Trailer Hitch6 5,000-lb. drawbar/350 lbs. maximum vertical
tongue weight & wiring
w/7-pin connector, Wheel Liners stainless steel

B – Chevrolet® Chassis7 – 6.0L 6000 Vortec V8 engine, 300-hp,
automatic, 4-speed overdrive,
4-wheel ABS, 145-amp. alternator, dual air bags, Trailer Hitch6 3,500-
lb. drawbar/
350 lbs. maximum vertical tongue weight & wiring w/7-pin connector,
Wheel Liners
stainless steel

Many thanks.

If towing is not a concern, I like that Chevy has more foot room for the
front seat passenger.  IIRC, It also has more room between the front seats
and the motor cover.  These are biggies to me because my wife is tall.  A
shorter passenger might not complain.  I think Chevy must have the engine
further forward because of the two points I mentioned and also Chevys are
almost a foot longer for the same model.  I prefer the look of the Chevy vs
the 15yo Ford design, but that's just my taste, YMMV.  If you're going to be
towing you can't beat that Ford V10 w/420 lb. ft. torque (Chevy has 360 lb.
ft.).  If you notice, some manufacturers don't even offer a Chevy chassis on
the larger units, so also pay attention to GVWR & GCWR for each chassis.
The Chevys are closer to maxed out already.

I've always been a little partial toward Chevy because of the 454 cid
Suburban I once owned.  But, in this case, with thoughts of flat
towing my Honda CRV, I'd be better off with the Ford.  ???   Thanks,
Crazy Dayz!

Yes.  Not only does the Ford chassis have the better towing
characteristics, the Ford Torque Shift is better suited and is a stronger
transmission than the four speed GM transmission.

The transmission you would get is the same one that is behind the Power
Stroke Diesel.  On the GM chassis, that transmission is only for gassers.

You both have provided the kind of independent (objective) advice I
felt was necessary.  (looking at all the Chevy's I've owned).  THANKS!

I had the Ford transmission on a one-ton  Diesel-dually fifth wheel
hauler. It was NOT impressive. As a matter of fact it was the weakest
part of the truck and what made us decide to go to an MDT. If you are
getting the Ford chassis, I strongly suggest installing a tranny
temperature gage.

That was two transmission types ago.  The new Ford Torque shift is
comparable to the Allison in the GM diesels.

Don't read any sky-writing for the next two weeks.

On my limited knowledge, derived only from the specs I've found, I would get
the Ford if I was planning on towing a CRV.  The CRV is about 3500 lbs, at
least for a 2007 model.   A 2005 model is about 3400 lbs.  You could weigh
your CRV with a full tank at a truck stop that has scales to see just how
much it weighs, but I think you'd be better off with the Ford.  You'd be
best off with a Kodiak chassis class C :-)
