Just curious to know if when running the Generator to charge up my Coach
Battery, if it will also charge up my Engine Battery too ?  (i do have
an isolator control in the engine bay).   And...which will charge the
Coach Battery faster : Running the engine at idle or running the 2.8 kw
Generator ? Thanks much.

It all depends on how it is wired. A fast and easy way to check is to
check the voltage of the engine battery with the motor not running,
then run the generator and check the voltage in your engine battery
again. If it increases, then it is charging your engine battery.

I doubt either the engine or the generator will charge your battery
any different. Usually the battery will only take what charge it needs
up to the voltage being supplied. Both should produce approx. the same
voltage.

Nope!

Yep!

That is, if your rig has a solenoid connecting the two batteries when
the ignition is in either the ON or the ACC position, as mine does.

Switching the ignition to ACC while running the generator or plugged
into shore power most definitely *does* charge my engine battery.

May be the wrong answer.  It depends on the motorhome.  I have a 2000
Bounder and both house and chassis batteries are charged either from shore
power or generator.  This was not true with earlier model Bounders.  I
believe the change occurred in the 95 or 96 models.

As I mentioned, my '95 Class B is that way. I bought it used in '98, but
I believe the solenoid was in there as original equipment. I have since
replaced the solenoid with another one like it because the original
stopped working -- the ground connector was badly corroded.

I can't imagine why anybody would NOT want this arrangement in a MH. If
one doesn't have it, it's a piece of cake to add it.
