Honda Civic & CRV as toads - Good or bad?

It would appear that both the Civic and CRV (among others) are not
included in most lists as towable (4 wheels down).  Yet I see an
occasional posting which mentions towing either a Civic OR a CRV.

Would love to get some feedback on these two particular vehicles?

Thanks

Don't know about the CRVs but the Civics were before the 2006 models. I
believe that Honda made changes to the transmission for the 06 models.

We have an 05 Civic and the factory did verify that it could be towed
all-four down.

I have an 04 CRV and tow it all over the west.  The Honda manual tells
how to do it.

I don't know about the Civic but the CRV including the '07 are towable 4
down.

One caution about the CRV (and maybe the Civic). Originally, Honda said the
'07 CRV was NOT towable. They later changed it.

My guess is that they had too many people skimping on the pre-tow procedure,
trashing the tranny, and getting it fixed under warrany. Bottom line, be
sure to follow the pre-tow procedure!

Steve
P.S.: Since the Saturn VUE has a Honda tranny, the same warning probably
applies.

Thanks one and all for your words of comfort and relief re the Civic
and CRV as toads.  In response to one suggestion, I contacted my orig.
Honda dealer and they sent me a Honda Service News bulletin with
details on how to prevent engine damage when towing.

I got my copy of an RV industry trade magazine the other day. The CRV
is listed as towable all 4 down. The Civic is not listed.

In your initial comments about the changes in 06 along with what Steve
has just pointed out, really sum it up nicely.  The Honda Service News
that I received from a Honda dealer was published in January 2000 and
clearly stresses the pre-tow procedure that Steve and I both
mentioned.

My Civic is a 1997 and my CRV is 2002 so, theoretically, I should be
OK with either.  The Civic is much lighter and should tow a bit
easier.  The CRV even has a section in the User Manual for towing.

Thanks, one and all, for your splendid comments.
