I think it stands for Recreational Vehicle. Unless I'm mistaken
everybody who operates an RV needs to keep that fact in mind. You aren't
in business. You don't make money like professional truckers. It's not
your job to drive your RV. You do it in the name of recreation. It's
your fun, your escape, your freedom to go where you like to go and see
what you like to see in the comfort and convenience of your own personal
vehicle. I can see the attraction in it all.
But, what I can't see is the attitude some of you have. Like you have
more right to your recreation than other motorists have to their job. My
job is cycling and not one subscriber here seems to realize that road
use for a job should take precedence over road use for recreation. So
the next time your driving down the road and have to slow down for a
backhoe, a farm tractor, a crane, etc. try to keep in mind that you're a
RECREATIONAL vehicle and stop being so damned impatient. Slow down and
give the working man a break. And try to remember that some of the
cyclists out there use their bikes to commute to and from work. Some
cyclists use their bikes to train for their work like I do.
So slow down. Enjoy your vacation. Enjoy your travels. Be happy that you
don't have to be somewhere to punch the old time clock. Develop a sane
and rational attitude towards others using the highways and byways.

Ya know, I live in the Blue Ridge Mtns., and I see these same gripes
done as letters to the editor about once a month here... Cyclists
complaining about drivers being rude, dangerous, etc., and not 'sharing
the road'.
Of course, not _one_ of them ever mentions taking some responsibility
for their own safety... wearing bright colors, having adequate rear
lighting at night, etc.... With our sight distances here limited by
hills, curves, and vegetation, it's _really_ important. Yet I see
idiots pedaling away on public streets and roads in gray or black or
brown every day, many evenings, and occasional at night A bright
jersey does no good if most of the back is covered up by a black or gray
backpack or hydration pack, or when leaning far over the pedals. It's
amazing how well a brightly-patterned team jersey blends into
sun-dappled leaves or fall foliage.
I won't even get started on the 'traffic manners' of some cyclists.
Clean up your own dam' house.
My attitude has gone thru three phases... It started as "Get off my
dam' road!", gradually changing to tolerance and acceptance, but lately
it's turned to FOAD, since most cyclists expect all the responsibility
for their safety to be mine.
So would you like some cheese with your whine, Shad?

REPLY: Sounds like darn good advice to me ; when i retire (soon) , I
plan on just cruising down the Boulevard in the far right lane and
taking in the scenary . Dont plan on driving anymore than, say, 5 hours
per day before finding a CG or State Park . I cant say ive really ever
noticed a hostile RVer on the road ; i think the great majority are
pretty nice folks and would be willing to give you their polo shirt with
alligator on the pocket if you asked for it. At least thats my
personal experience. It sounds like youve had a bad run of the other
kind though and that is a shame. I just dont see any reason to get
rattled cause some other motorist give you the middle finger ; afterall,
its a physical impossibility what he is telling you thru it !
