Are Police Depts. accomodating in the case of a very tired RV driver ,
or,  are they apt to tell you to check into a local motel ???  Just
wondering if anyone has actually stayed on Police Dept. grounds before
???

There have been anecdotal posts in the past.  Some have allowed it.  It
would never hurt to ask, if they don't allow it, they can surely point
you to a safe place you can stay.

Several years ago we were traveling in our Class B up the Eastern
Seaboard. We were between Washington and Baltimore, on the Balto-Wash
Expy (IIRC), when we realized we were not coming onto a suitable place
to spend the night. It was already past 1 a.m.

We pulled off the expressway and headed into a little town and saw a
sign pointing to the local police department. We went there and asked
the night desk sergeant if she knew of a safe place where we could park
our camper van and sleep until daylight.

She said, sure, just park out in the front corner of our parking lot.
I'll notify the officers who you are so they won't bother you, and
you'll be just fine.

So we did. Woke up to a soft drizzle of rain after a restful and
undisturbed night's sleep, went inside and thanked the (now different
shift) desk sergeant, and went on our way.

Would do it again in a heartbeat.

We have on several occasions, BUT not in the past 10 o 15 years. It
got to the point they were all saying no, but they woulrd tell us were
we could park for the night, then to the point where they just said
no.

They probably had cycle patrol officers on their staff.
