I've got the solution to the increased impact RVs have on the atmosphere
by their spewing more than their fair share of pollutants into the
atmosphere solely for self-serving recreational purposes. I think there
needs to be legislation that puts a luxury tax on all RVs similar to the
luxury tax the government put on sea-going yachts several years ago. I
used to be against taxes like this in general but I got to thinking
about them after reading a couple posts here in the past week or so and
concluded that such earmark taxes could constitute a public service.

After all, if somebody's going to cause increased global warming because
of their choice of recreational activities which cause damage to the
whole world entirely out of proportion with the rights of individual
over the rights of the total inhabitants of the planet, then that
somebody needs to pay and pay dearly for the privilege of doing so. It
simply isn't right for somebody's "fun" to cause harm to just about
every other living soul on the planet.

We need to get serious about stopping global warming. I can say this
because, as a cyclist, I don't burn fossil fuel and harm the atmosphere
with recreational vehicle pollutants. My recreation and occupation
(professional racing cyclist) is totally environmentally friendly.
Cycling burns no fossil fuels.

So, here's my plan to address that inequity. A percentage of the
proposed luxury tax should be earmarked for increased law enforcement
that protects cyclist traffic rights, build and maintain dedicated
bicycle paths and lanes that are for cyclists only and which are
properly designed and with no pedestrians allowed. Further, I propose a
surcharge on the license plate for RVs the revenues from which would pay
additional police officers whose sole duty would be too educated and
ticket if necessary any motorists who bullied and endangered cyclists.
Cycling, as a form of transportation, needs to be encouraged and one way
to do so would be to give cyclists certain rights and privileges above
and beyond what motorists enjoy. We need to get more people out from
behind a steering wheel and get them to use environmentally friendly
forms of transportation, especially transportation of a recreational
nature. The very idea of using a large environmentally unfriendly motor
vehicle for recreational purposes is an anathema.

Here in Illinois, if you own an RV, you have to have regular emissions
testing done to make sure it is in compliance to the EPA's stringent
guidelines.  I think that is enough inconvenience for RV owners
personally. So long as you keep the RV up ,  there shouldnt be taxes for
us.  Im already paying 28% in income tax to the IRS, 6.5% in sales tax
to the State of Illinois on everything i buy, transportation taxes in
with the gasoline i purchase for the 4 vehicles i own, property taxes of
nearly $4,000 per year to the County,  and misc.  taxes on my home phone
bill/cell phone bill/and cable tv bill .  In addition, my Village
expects me to pay taxes in the form of Village Auto Stickers , etc...
Im sure ive left out quite a few other taxes which i pay but arnt coming
to mind at the present.

Just let me enjoy my RV travels without any more taxes on this and taxes
on that.  I came to America to have a better life ;  not to work 1.5
days each week to turn my money over in taxes .  I love America but its
starting to get out of control on many issues.  Yes...its still better
than where i came from, but,  I better not get tax bills once im
dead...cause i aint payin' em.

But not one really cares what you think.

Ok troll go away, after I give you a little advice.  Your arrogance and
ignorance is overwhelming.  However, you too can change.

1.) Don't believe everything you hear on the news.  They often only
delve into the most obvious side of a story.  Follow the money to find
the most obvious side of any story.

2.) Read, read and read but not just items from your side of the story.
Read the other side as well.

3.) Global warming is most likely true.  The idea that man has anything
to do with it is just plain arrogant and denies everything we know about
global systems, which is very little I will admit.  Global warming
caused by man theories conventiently forget that we are coming out of
the last ice age, that the recorded history of weather is insignificant
compared to the history of the world.  And therefore cannot show any
trend whatsoever relating to the current global weather conditions.

4.) Your statement that your cycling burns no fossil fuels and therefore
is environmentally friendly shows your limited focus on one facet of
what you do.  Think of all the support teams that are necessary for your
"sport" and your CO2 foot print grows considerably.

Now go away troll.

I agree with you. I don't believe anything I hear on the news. The news
is slanted way left. The news carries a socialist agenda. It's
propaganda. Following the money trail often gives valid results so I
agree with you there, too.

I do that. Probably to a much greater extent than most Americans. I read
news from the USA and from Europe where the "other side" is presented.
Most Americans only get the American propaganda news. I also peruse the
Internet where all sides are easily found. One only needs to have a
little intelligence to see what's going on.

Global warming is a catch phrase. Instead of an alarmist term like
Global warming it needs to be called Climate change. Global warming is
an alarmist term which represents a small chunk of time. Climate change
is a factual term which represents the state of change that been a
constant since climate began. So, given the fact that the present state
of climate change is a warming over a baseline what does that really
mean other than it's a normal state of affairs?

Your point of "global warming" being advocated using the baseline of the
little ice age shows the alarmist propaganda machine at work. Follow the
money like you said and you'll see those making the most out of the fear
tactic of global warming are the ones making money from the hype and
fear tactics.

A good point. The support vehicles do produce carbon dioxide. But
bicycles don't. More people need to get off their fat RV a.ses and ride
a real recreational vehicle - a bicycle.

> Now go away troll.

No. And since when is discussing one aspect of RVs, i.e. that of their
disproportional pollution, a troll? Seems to me it's a valid point and
an on-topic point. If RVers only wish to discuss positive aspects of
their choice of vehicle then it's not a realistic discussion. (not to
mention there would be very little to discuss as there really are few
positives if one is real about it.)
