Hello all,
I am going to go pick up a camper tomorrow. I know almost nothing
about it, except that it's a 1976 Coachmen with a Dodge cab, looks
like a 21'-er. Its got a few problem which I'd like to try to fix on
the stop so I can drive it away - its rear brakes are 'messed up', and
its accelerator 'sometimes sticks'. But it is supposedly drivable. So
my question is: What Haynes or similar manual from Autozone would I
need to get in order to work on it? What's the displacement of the
engine, how many cylinders, etc - which engine was commonly used?
While I'd be happy with a Dodge manual for the engine mechanicals
right now, is there some Coachmen manual available somewhere that
would be better for me in the long run?

When you say "pick up," I hope you mean someone's giving it to you to
get rid of it. Old campers like that are killing grass all over the
country, and it would be a shame to pay money for one.
I seriously doubt you'd find a copy of a Coachmen manual for it. Even if
you did, I'd still suggest you get a copy of Bob Livingston's "RV Repair
& Maintenance" (or "RV Maintenance & Repair," whichever). It has photos,
diagrams, and detailed instructions that will cover just about
everything on the "RV side" of the vehicle. All that stuff is fairly
standard, and you'll be surprised at how much the photos look just like
what you have.
Anyway, good luck with the old beast. You'll need it. And come back
often with your questions....
