The Jazz and Heritage Festival was this past weekend and it continues this
weekend (5/4-5/6) which is a very big event in New Orleans. Other than
that, I have no idea.

How is that festival compared with say the Sacramento or Monterrey
festivals if you've been to either?

I don't know anything about the Sacramento or Monterrey festivals but the
New Orleans festival attracts tens of
thousands of locals and out-of-towners. See here:

Thanks! Basically the Sacramento festival is older big classic Jazz,
big band, 30's-40's style etc. They do have 1 stage of modern Jazz.
Monterrey is the opposite with mostly modern Jazz. The problem with the
Sacremento festival is that it is over memorial day weekend and can be
VERY hot and humid. We stay 30 miles away in the foothills where its 20
degrees cooler.

Thanks That may be where they are all going but it's kinda odd that it
started this past weekend but they were all headed south today. I can't
think of anything else though and it just had me wondering (and dying to be
on the road). 4 weeks and we leave for 2 months and head up to St Louis
then over to Yellowstone if all goes well

Headed to Yellowstone myself this Spring/Summer. W will be leaving Houston
about June 10th and expect to
be on the road 4 to 6 weeks before we return. Retrun trip is open-ended -
we'll just go where the wind
takes us!

Think Rose Parade and Mardi Gras one is a spectator sport the other is
immersion/participation

Just a guess, but the Talladega Nascar race was Sunday, east of
Birmingham. Using the 59/20 route is the best and fastest western
route out of the area. I know that the RV traffic here near Bristol,
and not even on an Interstate road, but a nice 4 lane state road that
feeds KY, OH, IL, IN and points north is jammed packed with RV's of
all sizes Monday and Tuesday after the race. There were probably
easily 150 rigs passed this way Monday after the race this year. Just
as many or more were leaving on the other 3 exit roads from the area.
Bet if you looked close at those rigs, you could see lots of Nascar
banners, flags, decals, etc, of thier favorite drivers.

Bet you are right! Since I don't follow NASCAR, I didn't think of it. My
problem was thinking inside the box. I thought they were going TO some
place and didn't think they might be going FROM a location. Since they were
on opposite side of the interstate across a very wide median , it was too
far to notice any emblems-Rtavi

You know RVers. There's a rumor going around that FEMA is passing out
more of those Katrina 1000 dollar credit cards. . . .
