Need card rebuild info for a RV QG 4000 Onan. Bogs out and dies under
a heavy load. Good fuel pressure. Starts and runs great with a small
load.

Make sure the gas is good - that it hasn't been sitting for the winter. Put
some "Dry Gas" in the tank. A little water can create problems.

Try making the high speed air mix richer.

Test your circuits for a short that stalls out generator, for instance a bad
refrigerator unit.

Make sure the plug and air filter are clean

Check the fuel filter and fuel pressure under maximum flow.

Try carb cleaner first.

Check the oil level, it may auto cut off under load.

How many hours on the engine?

Only about 120 hrs on engine. Check Oil, Has New Fuel Filter and
Filter. Has clean Fuel. Was going to use an automtive fuel flush
canister with a mixture of carb cleaner and gasoline. Runs the
refrigerator and light fine, will not continue to run with AC or
Microwave on.

Is this the unit:

http://www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/diagram/spd_ky.pdf

If so, try the altitude adjust knob. It sounds like your unit is running a
bit lean. Set it for LOWER altitude or richer fuel metering.

Also check the exhaust outflow and see that it is not blocked, even
slightly. Is the unit level when you run it?

It looks like and adjustment and not a carb rebuild. If you get it going
properly let me know.

Thanks, I will.

Good tip but do remember too that even with altitude adjust ment there
is still a power loss at higher altitudes and you will not be able to
make same amout of power as at sea level. If you speen a lot of time
at altitude, you get a generator bigger than you need so there is more
left when you get in thin air. The starting load of a big Roof A/C can
honk a 4k generator pretty hard, especailly at altitude.

Oh my! It's nice you're trying to be helpful but you did everything but
read what Ken wrote. Another case of reading comprehension gone bad, I'm
afraid. Next time quote what the man said in your post. Then read it
again. After that compose your reply.

Here: let me show you how newsgroups work best:

Ken wrote: "Need card rebuild info for a RV QG 4000 Onan. Bogs out and

The first thing you have to do is read it very carefully. You will note
that Ken has made a confusing mistake by misspelling "carb" as "card.
And you will also note Ken did not ask a question. He simply made a
statement and provided a few facts as to how is generator runs. He's
saying he needs a carburetor rebuild for his generator and lists his
reasons why. He does not ask any question. He does not solicit any
advice. Your mish mash of suggestions is just a waste of space here.

An intelligent man would just reply saying something like this: Ken, I
do not agree that you need a carb "rebuild." The symptoms you listed
indicate a possible restricted or clogged main jet. A cleaning may be
all that carburetor needs. Carburetor rarely need to be "rebuilt." What
they need most of the time is a cleaning to remove sludge and grit and
water and other foreign matter that causes them to fail to supply the
required fuel/air mixture for the operational rpm range of the engine.

I hope this helps.

Helps, Thanks.

First you tell us we need to get rid of our LP gas. Then you tell us the
"right" way to take a shower. Now you're telling us how we should post?

You're a joke, Harry. Get outta here.

No, I'm serious: Go away. We can get along just fine without you.

I never read what Ken wrote. I have ESP and wrote my reply before he even
posted. That's right, check the posting times. Not only can I answer
questions before they are asked, I can fight my way out of killfile. Harry,
I suggest you enjoy a good stiff drink or two every morning and refrain from
reading the commentary section of the paper until after 3 pm.
