Ive gotton (supposedly) competitive quotes from a few RV dealers
locally, but, when i go to the internet and checkout some huge RV
Supercenters around the country, Im finding superior deals which are
amounting to at least a $4,000 savings on new Class C's , and, even more
on used ones. Im in northern Illinois and am trying to weigh up
whether i should entertain purchasing one from a huge RV Dealer in the
Ft. Worth , Texas area (Motorhome Specialists Inc). , fly down there
and drive it back home. I figure my travel costs involved would be
approx. $1,000 total in airfare and gasoline to get back home. Would
you do something like this in order to save some $3,000 , or, do u see
this as rather insignificant and still buy locally ?
Thanks for any insight you can offer.

You have to watch buying RVs and vehicles in some states or you will pay
taxes you might not have to pay in your home state. AZ for instance will
charge you tax if you take delivery there (some dealers drive the RV to NM
and let you take delivery there, but of course there is a fee for that). I
have bought a 5th wheel and a vehicle in TX without paying sales tax and
then registered them in my home state, OK, without any penalty. TX does
have an "inventory tax" on vehicles and RVs, but that shouldn't be more than
$150-$300. Check with your local taxing authority to see if there is any
downside to buying in TX and registering in IL.

REPLY: DId you have to pay the state tax for the RV purchase to Oklahoma
then ?
By the way, have you an opinion on a 2005 TrailLite 25' Class C. ???
Is TrailLite of a good reputation ? Thanks.

It isn't called a sales tax, it is an excise tax we pay when registering a
new vehicle or trailer in OK, but it is based on the cost of the
vehicle/trailer before trade in.
Sorry, I don't know anything about TrailLite Class C motor homes or
TrailLite in general.

Let me give you MY insight. I think a paltry 4 large is not enough to
even bother with going so far out of your way. What's it amount to
anyway. A couple or three days pay?
Why not buy locally instead of handing your money over to people in
another state just because you're a cheapskate. Wouldn't you rather a
local family or two benefit from the money instead of some freaking
Texas businessman probably a crony of George Bush? Lance Armstrong
brings plenty enough money into that state as it is.

REPLY: I work hard for my money and 4,000 american dollars is alot to
be concerned about. If you could save 4,000 on a brand new racing bike
by going out of state to get it, ill bet you would in a heartbeat.

REPLY: I dont spend my money on benefitting the Seller ; I spend it on
benefitting me . Thats why its 'my' money. ANd if it were a friend of
George's , id be willing to pay extra !
