If you run ONE heavy power user at a time, a 2.8 kw. should be fine
(along with the TV).

You have to figure on where you plan to use it too because unless it
is over powered HP wise for its size, output will be reduced with
altitude and if you think you need 3K and you plan for hot days at
5000 feet and more in elevation, you better get a 4 to 5 K unit.
Extreme heat and altitude both reduce engine performance on a
generator so get one a little bigger than you think you need. Nothing
worse than a hot day in thin air when generator will not cut the
mustard so to speak.

We did fine with a 4K. Ran a big A/C unit, 2 TVs and the microwave.

Are you saying you want a big enough generator to run everything AT ONCE ???
Or just everything by itself ?

You RV people aren't thinking out of the box. You seem fixated on
old-fashioned and dangerous things like propane-fired refrigerators
(dumb).  Now, you're inquiring about noisy, smelly and heavy generators.

Ask yourself is it really necessary to install a heavy gasoline or
diesel generator when you have a motor at hand that when idling can
produce all the power you want when combined with a battery bank and
inverter.  What's the use of having two motors?

All you need is a high capacity alternator to fit to your RV's motor and
the proper cables to transmit the power along with a dedicated battery
bank.

http://www.balmar.net/  Why buy another motor? Use the one you have
already. Duh!

Some of you people must have a bigger carbon footprint than Al Gore, for
heaven's sake. Try to remember it's an RV.  Expecting it to have all the
luxuries of home is dumb. Why not just stay home if you can't take a
little "roughing it?"

My opinion: Generators are like garages, you can never have one too
big.

Hank <~~~thinks bigger is better

That depends upon whether you have a good place to keep it
all the time. If it gets too heavy, you want a place where you
can place it and leave it.

Aaaaahhh!

A man after my own heart! <g>

Our little genset handles our 2 A/Cs, Microwave, 2 TVs, 2 computers,
lights, fridge, and water heater all at the same time. <G>

It's only a 7KW that's permanently lodged in the front of the FW and is fed
by its own 30 gallon gasoline tank. <VBG>

Too early in the morning.  Actually, going back and forth between the
laptop and desktop gets confusing to my fingers.
