Peter Pan - 19 Jul 2007 04:15 GMT > Looks like a strong unit. Has anyone heard things about it ? Thanks, Heard about it, had one, loved it, however, it was NOT whatever camping world (crap) sells (obviously, they don't make 99% of what they sell).... Sea Eagle has been in business selling inflatables since 1968... See their website at http://www.seaeagle.com/ They have dozens of models, and I have no idea what CW has in their toilet paper errr catalog, nor what sort of outrageous price they want for something you can get elsewhere....
Sorry, as you may suspect I absolutly detest camping crap (err World), and online they only show the coleman <http://www.campingworld.com/browse/skus/index.cfm/Outdoor-and-RV-Accessories/Out door-Store/Marine/Coleman-Kayak/skunum=34928>
Dave in Lake Villa - 19 Jul 2007 22:21 GMT What other brand could be better than the Sea Eagle ??? This looks and sound very rugged , great fun, and only 26 lbs ; its an old established Company as well :

(hooks and inflatable things don't go well together, and do NOT try and stand up to cast, use it to get to land).

Just don't try it if you weight 500 pounds. Did you see where some guy weighing 500 pounds was floating down the river and whatever he was in got a leak in it. He tried to walk to shore but fell. Where he fell, the water was too shallow for a rescue boat. It took them 12 hours to get him out of the water.

Dan Listermann - 19 Jul 2007 14:15 GMT The "Sailcat" looks interesting. I wonder how comfortable the seating is. We have a little 11' "Snark" that is hell on the butt. I sailed a "Hobbycat" the other month and found it to be not much better.

Thanks, We have a Sea Eagle inflatable dinghy for our boat with a semi rigid floor. It is great. Very strong, easy to inflate and deflate, and more importantly, easy to row. I've never tried their kayak (we have a solid 2 person kayak). Momma
Dave in Lake Villa - 19 Jul 2007 21:58 GMT Thanks for the responses. Ill take a look at Sea Eagles website and consider their other products as well, in addition to Dealers for purchasing one.
Jonathan King - 26 Jul 2007 17:07 GMT The cheap kayaks work ok but they are not durable and will not stand up to rough water. Check out NRS kayaks, they last for years and have very high resale values. You could probably buy one used.

The SeaEagle is a wet ride. Can get wet and/or cold.
Dragon Fly inflatable kayaks can be paddled open on nice days but you can also attach a spray skirt to be warmer/dryer if weather is not so nice.
They come as singles or doubles.
Try a web search for > Dragon Fly inflatable kayak <
If that doesn't work, try > Advanced Elements Kayaks <
I looked at the Sea Eagle, then did some web searching and bought a Dragon Fly.
Dave in Lake Villa - 27 Jul 2007 11:55 GMT John, I would use the kayak only in nice weather. Is the Sea Eagle a 'wet ride' due to its paddles (in nice weather) or...only in choppy waters ? Thanks, Dave.
John Ramsay - 28 Jul 2007 01:25 GMT >John, I would use the kayak only in nice weather. Is the Sea Eagle a >'wet ride' due to its paddles (in nice weather) or...only in choppy >waters ? Thanks, Dave. > > Sea Eagle is more of a canoe than a kayak, but it's sides are not as high as a regular canoe so you're going to take in water. But it is self-bailing.
I bought the Dragon Fly because it's more versatile.
Plus I had a nasty experience in an open canoe a few years ago when an unexpected rainstorm moved in.
Dragon Fly is quite dry in calm water without the spray skirt.
You can even take your spray skirt along and wriggle into it if weather gets wet.
Up to you. If you can, locate local dealers who have inflated display models and have a good look at both.
Dave in Lake Villa - 28 Jul 2007 12:35 GMT I looked at the DragonFly online and true, it looks more like a Kayak. But, i dont like the idea of the close cockpit and prefer the open spacious type. Im going to try to find a display on both so i get a better idea. The Kayak i get is going to be used in nice weather only, fairly close to shore, and for excersise and nearby exploration. I like SeaEagles construction with the K80 Kevlar/PVC material which they sent me in the mail --- its 33 mil thick and durable whereas Colemans inflatable Kayak is only 16 mil and of a different material. I have until Nov. to decide, then i leave for my long Snowbird excursion to the Southwest. Dave

Dave Hi Dave,
I don't know about the kayak, but we just bought a Sea Eagle 12.6 runabout. Quality is top notch and the company has been great to work with. We purchased it from Inflatable Boats for Less ( www.inflatableboats4less.com ). Tim, the owner, aswered all of our questions before and after the sale. We have been very pleased.

REPLY: Glad to hear you like your 12.6 . Ill see if your supplier can sell me the 330 although i think you have to get it directly from Sea Eagle. Ill take a look at the 12.6 and see what you got. Dave.

Ill take a look at the 12.6 and see what you got. Dave. Sea Eagle has dealers in US and Canada. I looked at the Sea Eagle 330 in person at a dealer's in Ontario, Canada.
Also would have saved a bit as compared to the quote I got for getting it shipped from Long Island.
Either look for Dealers on Sea Eagle web page or call
1-800-748-8066
Another possibility is a dealer located near where you're going to snowbird.

REPLY: Okay, will do.. What was your impression of the Sea Eagle display that you looked at ???? Is it well constructed as it appears to be in the Mailer ??

It looked to me to be a safe boat for calm waters but I was suspicious about the self-bailing. Seems to me the water beneath the boat is just as likely to put water into the boat if even mildly choppy, rather than allow water in the boat to drain out.
I was actually going to buy the Sea Eagle, but opted for the Dragon Fly because it was a drier paddle and also very well constructed.
Look at both in person if you can.

He and his wife travel around the US in their RV selling the boats.

Dave in Lake Villa - 30 Jul 2007 12:25 GMT Thank you fellas for your help.

REPLY: I contacted him . His price is no better than the Factorys 330 Pro Package price since the Factory will throw in an Electric Pump in addition to the Foot Pump, and Tims 30 day trial offer comes with a 20% restocking fee , whereas the Factory charges no restocking fee. He talked up his 'superior to the Factorys customer service' speal ... but couldnt give any specific examples of why his is so much better ; frankly, i found him to be full of hot air and disengenuous because he said the SeaEagle Electric Pump will only pump to 80% yet the Factory tells me it will pump to 100% . Him and his wife might be nice folks , give to United Way, and may have raised a few wonderful kids...but, he didnt convince me he was 'better' to buy from at all.
Regards.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience. I guess they have more "wiggle" room on the more expensive boats. Tim was able to beat the direct price and threw in a floorboard bag as well. Anyway, wherever you buy it, I am pleased with the product. Good luck.
