I would appreciate your reviews and recommendations for a dash mounted
GPS navigation system.
The Garmin 350 was unrecommended bbut I would like a larger screen,
Don't need ability to play cds, mp3's and other things I saw on a few
models. Already have two entertainment systems on the coach.
Another concern is the mount. The vacuum mount may not be the ideal
thing on the textured curvy dash. I don't think putting it on the
windshield is too good an idea though.
Any recommendations?

We just bought a Magellan 4040 at Costco. They're currently running $400.
The vacuum mount is very stable on the wind shield, and I find that it does
NOT interfere with my field of view, even thoug I had to stick it right in
the middle so i'd be able to reach it. It comes with the flat disk that you
can attach (sticky tape) to your dash for better suction.
It has a bluetooth option so that when you find a place in the database that
has a phone number attached, you can touch the number and dial it with your
BT enabled cellphone. That may be a handy feature, but it will probably go
entirely unused.
The main feature we wanted was a large library of points of interest (POI).
When we are passing through a strange town, we want to be able to type in
c-o-f-f-e-e and be directed to the nearest Starbucks. Likewise t-a-r-g-e-t
for all the other essentials we forgot to bring. That is our test for a GPS.
Also, when it lists the POI that you requested, it shows distance AND
direction relative to your current direction of travel. Our Polariod only
showed distance and it was very annoying.
Units we've tried:
Magellan 4040 passed the test (4.5 million POI)
Magellan 2020 failed miserably (1.5 million POI)
Polariod DVD/GPS - fun for the kids, but lousy on POIs

We have a Gamin, but it is getting long in the tooth. It does not speak the
road name. This is very annoying in tight situations where "go right" has a
few options. In these situations, you don't want to have to read the road's
name.
The suction thing has worn out.
We are going to Europe this fall and it would cost $300 to get the maps for
over there. We are looking into buying new for the above reasons. What
have inexpensive European maps as well as USA?
