I just bought the latest Sony LapTop from Best Buy (along with updated Malice-Master Protection software) so Ill be able to stay in touch with you all. I got the Verizon Insert Card so i can use the LapTop everywhere..even around the fire so long as theres Cell Towers in the vicinity. ANd the good thing is, i already know how to use it from practicing at the local Library. It will be good to know that Friends are only 'a click away' ! I leave Tuesday and should be at the Texas coastline by next weekend. Will keep you updated . Acer and Asus do some much better laptops; even Dell, although I hate to admit it, make a couple of good models. - But what you choose is up to you. I take it you researched the market rather than just diving in and accepting what some half-baked shop assistant told you was the best? Of course a desktop computer from Kustom Komputa - http://www.kustomkomputa.co.uk - would be the best option for home use if you lived in the UK; but exporting it to AmeriKKKa would be costly. (Insider information : There's an across-the board price-drop happening before Christmas; with up to £50 off the personalised quotation issued for any Kustomised computer bought this year. : That includes the newly-launched Vista Vinylite 2 range. Remember that all computers from Kustom Komputa are Kustom-built for the customer; and any prices advertised on the website are just a guide price for the default design.of that particular range. Early 2008 sees the launch of the INXPense V2 with even more computing "oomph". - A Vista-capable range with much more scope for expansion than the current Vista Vinylite 2. In addition we'll be utilising the new AMD triple-core processors in a brand new default range to be announced that year.) Well you did ask. Back to the laptop market then; and overall the two best from a number of models and manufacturers I could choose from are the Dell Inspiron 1520 with an Intel Core 2 Dou T1700 CPU, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, 15.4 inch widescreen LCD, nVidia Geforce 8600M GT graphics card. - It has excellent graphics capability including exceptional 3D performance, also a large spacious keyboard, and enough RAM to run Vista without many hiccups. Its dual-core Intel processor is another bonus; providing good computing power and enabling multitasking. - The drawback is that it's a rather heavy laptop at 3.1Kg; and mgiht tire your arm when carrying it a lot even more than whatever you do with it already does. Again with an excellent comfortable user-friendly keyboard, same processor, less RAM at only 1GB, and slightly smaller HDD at 120GB. The processor-speed lessens the negative effect of the insubstantial amount of RAM, although if you choose to downgrade the o/s to XP the fitted RAM should be ample. Again the graphics are fast and of good quality utilising the Intel graphics Media Accelerator X3100. I forgot to mention which laptop that last one was LOL It's a Lenovo Thinkpad R61 77321EG. - That's the result of installing Windows on one computer and posting on another. REPLY: All i truly need in a LapTop is : Email and Internet ; the wi/fi and aircard was a bonus. I did ask a couple of Computer Gurus and they said get something basic . If you're running Windows Vista you might find it somewhat unresponsive at times with only 1GB RAM - but you might be able to have it upgraded to 2GB if you need to. : I can't remember which motherboard the Vaio uses offhand, but it should be possible.
