Which TV Signal Amplifier to get for the RV ???

Motorola has one in Menards for $10  which is a 12 db unit.  It has a
bunch of specs on the back cover which im not at all familiar with.
Upon doing a online search , I found one which is 20 db for $24 .  Im
trying to use this with my RV's roof antennae which uses cable ;
would like to make the picture clearer for those stations that arent
close and dont come in too well. So,  what should be considered when
buying one of these Amplifiers regarding the specs on it ?   Thanks,
Dave.

Seems that a good share of new RV's come with Winegard antennas and
amps.  They've worked well for me.

Miles,  I dont see an Amp on my Wineguard  unless its put inside an
inaccessible place. Anyway,  I thought id try an external Amp to see if
i could get a better picture on some of the channels.   Need to know
what these specs mean ...or.. at least be able to know what is
considered better to purchase.

Does the wall panel where your tv's antenna cable plugs into have an
on/off switch?  Mine does.  Pushing it turns on the amp and lights an
LED on the wall plate.  Makes a huge difference on picture quality.

REPLY: Miles/Peter,  Yes, i do have a small outlet wall plate with a
red button on it that lights up when depressed.  Can i still add an
external amp. to get a better picture ?  Does it matter to have two
amps in series ?  My RV is a 2008 .  (sorry Sharron but i dont do teen
porn and all the malicious stuff you sign me up for goes immediately
into my junk file ;  I thought Pagans were non malicious folks ) Dave

You will short out the antenna if you add another booster. Just to see
if your booster is working, with the red light on, go up to the
antenna and disconnect the cable where it fastens to the antenna. With
a volt meter set to 12 volts, you should read 12 volts between the
center wire and the screw connector. If it doesn't, then just replace
the defective amp made for that antenna.  If all is working as it
should, you cannot improve on it. Mine gets out anywhere from 20 to 50
miles, depending on the landscape.

Not much point in adding an additional broadband amplifier to the some
13 or so tuned amplifiers already incorporated in your current system.
Willard amplifiers already do a marvelous job on their own. Additional
untuned broadband amplifiers wouldn't serve any useful purpose, beyond
merely amplifying noise.

Sounds a whole lot more tolerable than geriatric porn! ?? Each to his
own.

Depends what you are trying to do.... Usually the first amp is placed as
close as possible and amplifies the signal (and any noise)... once it's been
initially boosted (and then also has the noise in it), you can only further
amplify the combined signal (like to compensate for line loss, or splitter
loss in distribution systems)...
As an example, Think of a sat dish.. The low noise amp is usually on the
feed horn itself, and then line and distribution amps are added to keep the
signal/noise at a level devices can use...
If it were possible to amplify just the signal and not the noise, you could
just put a couple dozen amps in series, get thousands of db in gain, and
have the antenna on the roof pick up stuff from say china, or add a few
dozen more, and get TV signals from say mars/moon/other galaxies... Haven't
heard of anyone doing that.... :)

They all plonked you as DaveinLakeVilla so you appear as IbeDavid. This is
DaveinLakeVilla on his new laptop; and it won't be long before the ingrate
starts trolling his fundamentalist stupidity under this identity..

I helped this retard set up his computer and get everything sorted. In
return he accused me of trying to send him a virus - In a .pdf file of all
things; and he didn't even bother to scan the file; he just assumed out of
ignorance. : Thjis parallels with his fundy garbage: Once again he's no idea
what he's on about, he hasn't bothered to find anything out; he assumes it's
right and believes it out of sheer ignorance and in the face of evidence to
the contrary.

He is a socially dysfunctional troll and is best killfiled wherever possible
and avoided. If you try to help the cretin he just turns your help against
you as soon as you have served your purpose. There's a specific definition
of this condition but I don't recall what the name of it is. It's
encapsulated within the term "psychotic".

Why did you even helped out that ignorant POS in the first place?

He actually emailed me and virtually begged me to help him set up. As soon
as he got what he wanted he accused me; the vile piece of crap.

Dimwit's a borderline psychopath with delusions of grandeur, or even
worse, a paranoid schizophrenic.
Who else would risk being thrown in the slammer for carrying a
concealed weapon in violation of his state laws because he's so afraid
of some godless heathen robbing him of his precious money

OR
Maybe he secretly wants to be locked up with Bruno the Buttfucker?

It's a shame it's not a crime in Il to be a fuckwit - Or Dimwit would be
serving a multiple life sentance.

OK Dimwit - You want to play dirty? Have it your own way then. - Watch this
space. The evil fuckster's had the cheek to block me after helping him. Just
to let you know Dimwit: All communiucations from your email addresses - all
of them - will be deleted from server and replied to with a subscription to
porn at the address that you attempt to contact me through.

BTW note that the Dimwit troll's posting from Google; the troll's
newsserver. Leonard Abbott's obviously told him that Google doesn't take you
off their server for trolling. This wasn't anything to do with me so someone
else must be helping him now, probably Labbotomy, as Dimwit doesn't have the
intelligence to be able to work it out for himself.

Lots of older rv's had the roof antennas and power boosters inside.. Heck I
had one on my 1978!

At any rate, if you already have a roof antenna (amp inside + rooftop
antenna), there are very few amps you can use, snce there is already one in
the circuit
Steve - 15 Nov 2007 22:19 GMT
Winegard makes the best line amps going. They put a directional coupler on
the input to minimize reflections (ghosting) on the signal.

To check if you have an amplifier up in the antenna housing see if you must
supply DC power to the antenna via either the coax with a dc inserter or a
separate power line to the antenna. Passive antennas have no power inputs,
the power is for the amplifier.

To much gain (amplification) will cause the amplifier to distort. The
amplifier is best placed right at the antenna with as little coax cable as
necessary on the input.

Shop amplifiers on quality, not price. Not matter how little or much you
spend on junk components the picture will still look like crap.

Steve
