Although there have been several threads concerning the new HD TV sets, I,
among (I believe) many others, would not want to be forced to discard
working Analog sets and buy new ones.

This would mean, for SWMBO and me, the purchase of at least 4 sets
including the one that came in our 5th wheel trailer.

While cable/satellite service can supply Analog signals, broadcast signals
will be all digital after 2/17/09 and, in order to receive them, a Digital-
to-Analog converter will be required.

According to one source [<http://www.ntia.doc.gov/dtvcoupon/>], coupons
will be offered to pay $40 of the estimated $50-$70 cost of the D/A
converters with a limit of 2 coupons per household.

Hopefully, the converters will *actually* be offered for the *estimated*
price instead of the $250 that I saw a year ago.

You've actually seen one? The only digital converter I've seen is the
picture in the Camping World adds; I've never physically seen one in any
store.

Sorry to rain on your parade, Tom, but the ones I saw - about a year ago -
were at a Wal-Mart store.

$250 was more than I was willing to pay for one since a new TV would have
been cheaper.

Maybe the Government regulators don't know what is going on??? The
following was posted September 21, 2007.
First Digital TV Converter Box Wins Government ApprovalThe National
Telecommunications & Information Administration has issued its first
approval of a digital-to-analog converter box, the device that will
allow analog set owners to continue to watch free over-the-air
broadcast TV after the national switch to digital-only broadcasting

This one for $59 says "backorder" but it isn't actually out yet:
http://www.compsource.com/ttechnote.asp?part_no=78770&vid=1176&src=F

Other sources for the same item, also "backordered" have it between
$58.96 and $64.90

If you Google dta800 you will get a number of hits on the early RCA
press releases, showing at the 2007 CES, etc.

It appears to be scheduled for a January, 2008 release.

Yup - at a Wal-Mart.

About a year ago they had a few that were priced at $250.

Saw an ad a couple days ago for a small screen tv with digital tuner.
Price was very close to those with analog tuner.  Keep your eyes open
for what direction you want to take and current pricing.
