I have some medication bills that are getting a bit stiff.  Living in Cincy,
I was thinking about RVing up to Windsor to see what I could save.  It is
about 4.25 hours and might be a fun trip.  Any experience?

1st, not all drugs are cheaper in Canada than they are in the US, even
over the counter, so check prices in advance. As an example, asprin
cost almost 4 times as much in Canada

You will be hard pressed to come out any cheaper because of the cost
of traveling that far, but you will have had a trip. The 1st thing to
do when you get there is go to a couple of drug stores and check
prices on the drugs you need. Find out if they will mail refills to
you. Most won't!! Find out if they will fill 90 day prescriptions.
While at the drugstore ask where the nearest clinic is located that
will take walk-in patients, because you will have to see a Canadian
doctor before he will issue the prescriptions.

Last, check with US border to see if they still let prescription drugs
cross??

I hear that placebos are much cheaper in Canada.

Put Canadian drugstores into Google.
(here's one)  http://www.thecanadiandrugstore.com
Most websites will give their prices on drugs.
It would be much cheaper to get prices this way then to drive up there.
Just check to see if there are "hidden" charges.
Some have a service charge of $5.00-$10.00 per subscription.
Different drugstores have different prices.
One place will have "X" prescription at a lower price and "Y" prescription
at a higher price.
Another way to save money is to have your doctor prescribe a half of a
double dose pill.
My wife got pills from Canada for a while and it was then that I noticed
that a 80mg pill was only a few cents more than a 40mg pill.
I just looked up Lipitor and here's what I found..........
30-10mg tablets are $55.80
30-20mg tablets are $73.50
30-40mg tablets are $78.60
30-80mg tablets are $88.51

Even with Plan D, I still have the doctor write the prescriptions with
the double dose so I can split the tablets. That helps keep me out of
the "donut hole"!!

When I was getting drugs outside the US, a doctor we met that was from
England, set me up with by far the best prices on prescription drugs
and he didn't charge me a fee either!! He wrote all the prescriptions
double strength, including 1 that was a capsule and the capsules to
use with the split were included. I wasn't taking Lipitor but was
taking Zocor. It was generic in England & India at the time and my
cost was 10 cents per day!!  My cost now under plan D is zero, but I
do have the monthly fee. :-(

If they allow them to cross from Mexico....legal medications that is....why
would you think that they wouldn't allow medications from Canada into the
US??  I know for a fact that when we cross from Algadones, MX back into the
US at San Luis, AZ they allow a 3 month perscription of medication.  And I
would think that if you are on a prescription medication you would be
allowed to travel with it.

Have you crossed with prescription meds in the past 6 months?
Crossing rules change all the time and medications have been discussed
at the federal level, so that's the reason I suggested checking.  I
have carried a 90 day supply both ways across the Canadian border, but
not this year.

Yes we have crossed the US/Mexico border within the past two weeks.  When
asked if any medications we showed what was in the bag....Mexican
medications......We were told...have a good day.  My wife is on a drug that
costs $95.00 for 6 pills at home.  Here in MX she gets 8 for $11.00.  Same
generic drug at home made by the same pharmaceutical company.  I take a drug
that is controlled narcotic in it and my doctor gives me a 6 month
prescription that is filled prior to us leaving.  He also gave me a note
saying that I am prescribed this medication and am allowed to have the
supply I have on board.  I have never had a problem at either the US or
Canadian border.
Burt

PS: I have only seen one person told to return to MX as they had more than a
3 month supply.  The person went back to the pharmacy, they held the
overage, and he came back the next day and got them...No problem he said.

I have some expensive meds and save about 50% over US prices having them
shipped to me from Canada. Been doing this for about 6 years now. Always
get 90 day supplies of each med. I fax them my new refill prescriptions
twice a year, they call me to varify, its all very easy.
You would need to spend a few hours on the internet checking prices on
the meds you use.

When my wife was doing that, she was saving about 50% over US prices.
Like you said......you have to shop around.

Be sure to check out Walmart. They carry a wide range of generic
drugs, and you may be able to find what you need except for the brand
name. They offer a 30 day supply for $4.00.

Yea right. All Walmart carries are the cheaper drugs in generic. They do
not carry higher priced drugs for $4.

Notice from the Department of Redundancy Department:

That's exactly what he said in the first place.
