Looking for recommendations on a new in-dash receiver/CD player
suitable for an old person in an RV.

Major problems with the old unit: display is not very visible from a
distance, and the remote stops working about 15 feet back.

Would be nice to find one with good AM reception, since I listen to a
lot of talk radio.

Having a problem looking for a product in the stores, seems like they
are all manned by gangsters. You say "AM reception" and they look at
you cross-eyed. Probably don't even know what it means.

Thanks for suggestions.

I think the best thing you could do is go to the Crutchfield web site
(http://www.crutchfield.com/) and have a look at all they offer. There
are so many choices any more that it would be hard to recommend
something for you. My personal choice is one that has all push button
controls, no rotary controls. Our coach tended to wiggle at just the
wrong time when we had a unit with rotary controls.

My RV had a Kenwood GPS/Nav/AM/FM/CD stereo radio in place of the
original issue box.  The AM radio was a joke.  I, too listen to talk
radio and want something that will drag in a signal from more than 20
miles away.  When the GPS became outdated (new map was ~350 BUX!), I
sold the unit and took the RV to an Auto Stereo store.  They put in a
JVC unit and the AM side is fantastic! I can hear the Tucson talk
station as well as the local Phoenix with this unit and the old one, I
couldn't even tell the station was there.

About $250 with the old Kenwood taken out -carefully- and the new one
installed.  Whoopeee!

Another option if you enjoy talk radio is an add-on XM or Sirius receiver. I
travel a lot in my business and have one in my 08 Sonata. Indispensible for
the areas of the country that don't have reception.
