We are thinking of going to Atlanta over New Years.  How are the roads from
Cincy, where is a good place to stay and what to do there?  I don't see any
state parks nearby.

Stone Mountain has an RV park, but it's very expensive. I'm not sure
there would be many RV parks open in the winter. If there are any parks
open, I imagine the water would be turned off at the sites. Atlanta is
famous for its ice storms.

Don't bother with the new World of Coca Cola. We went this summer and it
was a major rip-off. Very expensive to park and to get in.

Janet, I'd be willing to bet you're mistaken about RV parks being closed
in winter, or not having water available, in the Atlanta area.

True, they do have an occasional ice storm and an occasional bitterly
cold night or two, but the typical winter lows are not unreasonable.

Atlanta is a Deep South city. It just ain't that cold there.

It might just seem that way to me. My sister used to live there and
every time she had a family wedding or something there was an ice storm
and the roads and airports were all closed. Then there was the super
bowl ice storm thing. Too cold there for me. I need a parka if it's less
than 70. <g>

I had trumpet hibiscus blooms up to 3 days ago!! Broke record highs
several days this month. We've had 2 mornings with ice slivers in the
bird bath. It's cool and RAINY now though.  Maybe my water tanks will
refill again?

who you couldn't run out of the Atlanta area

Congratulations! Maybe it'll make it up our way before it fizzles out.

I checked the radar, and it is in fact moving NE, which is a good thing.

Jones Trailer Park off I-85 just north of the loop is open all year
and I believe there is bus service from there to the Marta train
station that takes you all over Atlanta.  The Atlanta Aquarium is
worth a day and CNN center is well worth the cost of a tour, both
within walking distance of each other. The Cyclorama is worth the
admission with it's history of Sherman's march through North Georgia.
A Gray Line Bus Tour last all day and takes you to the major sights to
see, such as Margaret Mitchell's home, the King Center, the Capitol,
Sweet Auburn, etc.

I will never ever stay at Jones Trailer Park again.  The RV
sites are rarely used and the water is terrible.

When we stay there we stay at Stone Mountain. They have plenty
of space and it is reasonable to drive to from anywhere but
Columbia.  There are very few other alternatives near Atlanta.
Our son and family live near downtown so we go there a lot.
Since it is close, sometimes we just drive down from  Knoxville
and stay at a B&B.

McKinney COE park on Lake Allatoona is open year around. Thats where we stay
when we're in the area.

I have my faults, but being wrong isn't one of them.
