I'd suggest asking your question on the alt.rv.pop-up-trailers news group
since that group specializes in this type of unit.
Most of the "regulars" here have either hard-side travel trailers, fifth-
wheel travel trailers, or motorhomes. (Some have more than one...)

You certainly need to take a look at one setup before buying it! The
dealer should have quickly set one up for you to look at.
I have had several Coleman popups which were made by Fleetwood and loved
them. Never had any problems other than very minor. Mostly just
drawers and cabinet doors with loose hinges and handles that were easily
fixed.

According to car.com the uplander is rated at 2000#
http://www.car.com/content/research/searchresults/index.cfm/action/SelectTrim/ma
ke_vch/Chevrolet/model_vch/Uplander/virsection/summary
According to Fleetwood, Dry your at 2135#
http://www.fleetwoodcampingtrailers.com/model.aspx?sid=1&mid=4
You either got too much camper, or not enough car. Saw a couple websites
that said 3500# for the Uplander, but even thats not enough for a fully
loaded camping trip! 2135 dry + load and gear, your looking around 2900#,
add the passengers and all the other stuff that goes along and you're
already at max. Maximum safe tow is 80%. If your set on the Westlake line
there are a lot of other Destiny series that come in a lot lighter.

hello again,
1. did post message to alt.rv.pop-up-trailer with no responses.
Thanx miles.. its mid winter here and everything is in storage. dealer did
offer to put one up for me next couple of weeks though but i am trying to
beat the show rush and get my financing up front... winter hours won't work
for me as i am at work.
i've heard great things about the fleetwoods and not many complaints which i
am looking for as well.
to brian.... we have the trailer package and cooling is thru the radiators
(from dealer). they will put in additional after market cooling if we need
it but the "techs" at the dealership says its fine. (he owns one as well and
has a hard sided rv as well).
trailer will be used 3 weeks at most and a few weekends parked at the
campground.
again thanx all for the comments and the insight

They're good. I'd also look at Starcraft and Jayco. They both make
excellent popups as well. In the end I find they are all similar. So to
me its finding an great dealer with a great service shop that counts the
most.

Never trust the RV dealer to tell you what you can tow. They want to
sell you a trailer. Read the RV forums and you'll see the bad
experiences from people who believed their dealer and ended up
overloaded for their tow vehicle. Look up the exact ratings for your
vehicle and shoot for 80% of that figure with the trailer fully loaded.
It's very easy to add 500-1000 lbs in camping gear, water etc.

To add to that, The tow rating not only relates to what your towing but also
what is in the tow vehicle itself, you need to add everything in the car
(clothes, kids bikes, etc (absolutely everything) you also need to add the
passengers of the vehicle in there. Tow ratings only include a 150# driver
and a 100% empty vehicle.

Stick around awhile - you'll find that Fleetwood has become a curse word
for many on this NG due to poor quality and/or Quality Control.
Have you considered one of the Coleman units?

and just who do you think made those Coleman units?? Fleetwood!!
They have a good reputation in the popups. BTW, none are being made
with the Coleman name anymore.

Once you have filled all the tanks, loaded the camper and Uplander with gear,
supplies and carbon units (people), you will likely be towing at (or beyond)
the maximum rating of your tow vehicle. This implies all manner of concerns,
not the least of which is safety to you and others on the road.
You would do well to consider a smaller camper or larger tow vehicle. Good
luck!
