eBay Auction page: http://snipr.com/1970Ultravan

The product of aeronautical engineer Dave Petersen’s vision of a
recreational vehicle, the Ultravan was a forward-looking product
of the late sixties and early seventies. While most of the
aluminum monocoque RV’s were powered by the versatile Corvair
engine, just a handful got sporting Corvette power.

The Ultravan Corvettes sported small-block Chevy 307 cubic-inch
V-8’s, and had power to weight advantages that couldn’t be found
in any other RV’s of the day. The camper also sported disc
brakes, and the Corvette’s independent rear suspension, giving
it a much more car-like ride.

This particular Ultravan has got a lot of potential for
restoration, but will certainly take all the efforts of a
dedicated fan...

FWIW, I saw one of these (the Corvair version) several years at a rest
stop on I-40 in western NC. It did not *look* restored but rather
appeared to be in "excellent original" condition, at least on the
outside.

I chatted briefly with the owner, who gave me some written information
(he carried a stack of handouts with him <g>) about both the vehicle and
the owners' club. He was friendly enough but did not offer to let me
look inside, so I didn't ask. (Heck, I might be reluctant to show the
interior of my MH to a total stranger at a highway rest stop, either.)

Interesting vehicle. I'd love to have something like that for the
novelty of it, but only if it were either in perfect original condition
or completely restored, absolutely reliable, and very cheap <g>.

So I'm fully aware that I'll probably never have one....

But it sure does make you still want one. Restoration of this MH would
be right up old WILL's alley. <H>

Hey, Bill.  I saw your ideal rig.  A big Freightliner with about a 36'
straight truck chassis.  Had a toy compartment at the rear with a large
ramp that folded down.  One slide.  Owner said it was made by Hallmark.

Looked spendy but you got the big bucks, right?

There is one just down the street in MS. like that, he is an  owner of a
moving company, bet it was listed as one of his moving vans.
