I just had my fridge recalled.  They put a sort of shield around the burner
and maybe a sensor too.  While I realize that it was rather warm here in
Ohio this past weekend, it seemed to take far longer to cool down than I had
usually expected.  The unit was dead level as it gets.  I was wondering if
anybody else had a similar experience.

That was a necessary measure to keep the wind away from the flame because
when the flame blew out propane escaped and [[[[BLAM]]]] there went a nice
big explosion. I've been warning all you good folks about the dangers of
propane and this should lend credence to my campaign to make everybody aware
of the high level of risks they face.

Drive safe!

Wrong.  It has to do with leaking hydrogen from inside the cooling unit.

Gawd... when are people going to block Harry..... <sigh> Or at least
stop replying to the idiot. I don't see his crap until someone replies.....

There is no risk of explosion if a flame blows out. That's why there's a
FLAME SENSOR in the units.... DUH....

I ran it on propane yesterday.  Started about 1:00 and when I checked it
around 6:30, it was good and cold.

Maybe there is something to starting them out on propane only instead of
electric.

But I thought the cooling unit in the fridge used ammonia in the evaporator.
I think you're talking about something else.

Maybe batteries? Overcharged batteries can explode because they produce
hydrogen and oxygen both of which can burn or explode given the right
concentrations. But I think they can use ammonia to put fires out so I'm
sure it doesn't explode.

Ammonia phosphate is what's inside some fire extinguishers.

The atmosphere in an absorption refrigerator is hydrogen.  It is what the
ammonia evaporates into.
