We have been camping in a pop-up for 3 years and really enjoy it. However
we're thinking of moving to either a Class A or C motorhome. The ones I've
seen all have nice captain's chairs for Mom and Dad up front. Where would
two kids ride when on the highway?
Also, there are hundreds of different models of motorhomes. I'd like to
find a queen bed for mom/dad and two bunk beds for the kids (without having
to convert the sofa or dining room table). Would want a decent bathroom
with shower. Don't have the funds for a diesel pusher! Where would I start
looking: Fleetwood? Lexington?
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi,
The kids would ride in the other seats in the motor home that have
seat belts. Usually the sofa. Most motor homes have seat belts for 5
people. Some may have more.
Finding a motor home with a "motor home sized queen bed" won't be a
problem as most all come with a queen sized bed. Finding a motor home
with bunk beds may be more of a challenge though. I've never seen any
myself but that doesn't mean someone somewhere doesn't make them. You
usually get more sleeping arrangements with a Class C, then a Class A.
As to where to start looking. You can get a good RV from any
manufacturer, you can also get a lemon from any of them. Go to each
of their web sites to check out their makes and models to see if you
can find something you might be interested in. Then go to as many RV
shows as you can and compare the different makes and models. Look
closely at the quality of the workmanship inside and the material
used. Open the cabinets and stick your head inside notice how they
are built and how things are attached to the walls. Try to find and
look in every nook and cranny to see how it was put together. You
will begin to see a wide difference in construction and price. The
trick is to find one that fits your price range and has construction
you can live with. Or if you find one you like with quality
construction but it's out of your price range, then look for a used
coach of that make and model. Used may be a good option as there are
usually a lot of good used coaches available. Construction and ease
of use plus dealer service and manufacturer service are more important
then color, glitz and do-dads.
If I were looking for a new coach I would look at Newmar, Tiffin,
Winnebago, Monoco, Coachmen, and Fleetwood, in that order, for entry
level to mid level motor homes. Just my preferences, of course :)
Hope this helps. Take care and Happy Campin...

Watch out for the kind of Class A where you have to pull down a bed over
the cab. With a Class C the bed over the cab is always usable. Dunno if
it's legal for kids to ride up there, but they like it.

Depending on where you will be camping, a good extra is an outdoor
shower. They can wash off the mud before coming in, and the water
doesn't fill up the holding tank.
