Hi Vince,
I think this is a great SP we stayed there for a week in June and are going
back for a long weekend in Oct. The drive up to the park is steep and
winding but we made it without any problem. It was cool even in late June
so take a sweat shirt for the evenings. A great park to hike. One nice
hike is right from the campground up to "the Scales" ask about it if
interested. I know you'll have a great visit.

The drive to the park is intimidating for a larger RV. The direct road
from I-81 has signs saying take the back road. The back road is bad,
too. Narrow, windy, steep. We made it with our 26 ft Minnie Winnie
towing our Saturn. The park is nice spaces are generous, the fee was
$17 I think. Trying to remember. We stayed only one night on our way
to the Virginia eastern shore. We were on the road on 9/11/01 a couple
of days later as I recall. There were deer grazing on the lawn when we
awoke in the morning at the park. Go and enjoy. August should be nice
because you are up out of the heat at lower elevations.

First trip to SP was in DEC last year, being from out of town we made the
drive up without knowing the Park was closed.
I made the drive in my 2002 Toyota V-8 Tundra towing a 27' SunnyBrook TT.
(Wt about 5,000 lbs)total. It was slow going using low gear (automatic
trans) but we did it, The road was steep and curvy, but it wasn't that bad.
Go For It!!! If we did, anybody can! Lesson learned- always call ahead
or know where you are going! Very cold, deer every where, will try again in
warmer weather.
