We (NAM) have received hundreds of complaints about abusive practices of
certain membership camping schemes.

We are drafting a letter to the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) asking
them to help fight those abusive practices.

We Need Your Help !

Please read our draft letter and send us your comments/suggestions...

The first draft of our letter is posted at:
http://www.natlassoc.org/bad/camp/

I promise that we will not try to sell you anything or collect any personal
information about you - we just need your comments and suggestions.

Why don't you explain just who the NAM is.  You could be the
national association for members of just about anything, like
the assocation of gay ex-KKK members for all I know.  Not that
there is anything wrong with that...

Dan Hopper has been around for ages. He is tireless in his
quest battling the unscrupulous membership campground
scammers. Check out the website he posted, then make comments.

If that is the case, then I don't think it would be all that
much trouble for the guy to include a one or two line blurb
explaining what it is all about.  If you expect the average
person to take the trouble to bail out of USENET and bring up
a web browser, you are going to lose that person most of the
time.  There needs to be some kind of up front reward for the
effort.  And if this is a legitimate organization, I would
expect that they would be attempting to gather new members, and
a breif blurb might encourage those of us who have never heard
of the group to go check it out.  If I have been in the business
as long as I have and I hadn't heard of it, then perhaps there
are other less experienced folks who lurk in these parts who
also hadn't heard of NAM.

That's why I took the time to fill you in. I don't need to
"bail out" of usenet. I just click on the link and my
browser brings up the page. To regulars, the name Dan Hopper
rings a bell.

As an African American Bi Sexual KKK stay at home mom that likes to be tied
up and violated I resent that ;-)

PS- I know Dan Hopper. We spent a beautiful night together back in the
middle 80's.  He knows how to treat a lady.  However I don't know if he
knows a damn thing about campgrounds.?

Hi again John,

You appear to have asked a fair and an honest question.
I hope I have answered it to your satisfaction.

We (NAM) try very hard to avoid SPAM and the appearance of SPAM so we may
not have offered as much information as we should have. We just naively
assumed that others would take our posts at face value - or check us out at
our web site.

We don't sell memberships or anything else -
We are just people who are concerned, we care, and we want to help others.

Without knowing it and without trying too hard - you have become one of us -
and you don't owe us any money or anything else.

Your question has caused us to take a fresh look at how we approach others
for help.

What do you think about our draft letter?
How do you think we can make it better?

Dan

If you are offering useful information to your carefully selected
target group, which you are in fact doing, I don't consider it to
be spam.  I don't mind periodic updates, especially from non-profits
who are passing along good information like your group is doing.

A front for NAMBLA, maybe?  I'm with you, this is altogether too
vague, and I never heard of this person.

Sure you have. Maybe it slips your mind at the moment but
Dan has posted here many times in the past. He is involved
in trying to nail campgrounds whose scamming methods have
thousands out of unsuspecting buyers. He's to be commended
for his efforts.

Ok John,

The National Association for Members of Campgrounds, Resorts, and Timeshares
[NAM] is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that advocates for fair
treatment of members of those kinds of organizations. We do not charge dues
or fees. No payment is required for any help or service we can provide. All
officers and members are unpaid volunteers. We work closely with government
officials, attorneys, and others whenever we can to protect and enforce
rights for "Members" of campground resorts, condominiums, and timeshares.

More information is available at our web site about our organization and its
objectives and activities.

Our web site is at:
http://www.natlassoc.org

When I visit a campsite - I like to leave it a little bit cleaner, prettier,
or somehow better than when I found it.

I'm 64 years old.
When I leave this life - I hope I can do the same thing...

Other of our volunteers may have other reasons for helping - We just keep
doing our best.

This newsgroup can be an important sounding board for activities we engage
in to try to accomplish these goals.

Sincerely,
Dan Hopper, Chairman
NAM
