I have a motorhome with a 6500 watt Onan generator and when I press the
starter switch to crank it, I hear sort of a crackling noise from the
generator for a few seconds then the starter will turn.
So if anyone knows what's wrong please reply. Thanks for any input.

You might want to check the battery cable and ground connections to the
generator - at each end - it sounds like one (probably the +12V) is loose
and sparking until it heats the terminal enough that the expansion of the
metal provides a better, if hotter temperature, connection.

I'd suggest that you repost this in rec.outdoors.rv-travel. Alan
Robinson frequents that NG and he is a Onan Generator repairman. He can
answer almost any generator related question with very good detail.
