Hi,
The fuel pump relay is (and I'm quoting from Bentley here) located behind right
side trim panel in front passenger (US, right side of car) footwell. I think it
should be just above the LH control unit. I've never had cause to go there
myself, but I'm guessing you would have to remove the lower dash, which is a
bit of a pain. Not sure if troubleshooting the relay was covered earlier in
this thread, but in case not, allow me to summarize the Bentley procedure
(since you seem to not have a copy):
Remove fuel pump, check for power at terminal 86. If that's ok, test across
terminals 86 and 85 with a digital voltmeter- should give 12V when ignition is
turned to "start." If that's ok, voltage applied across terminals 85 (-) and 86
(+) should make the relay "click," and also give continuity between terminals
30 and 87b. If not, the relay itself is faulty.
I'm sure someone will correct me if anything I said is wrong.
Hope this is helpful. You should get a Bentley manual though.

(for 16 valve, 8 valve is slightly different)
and give continuity between 30 and 87 at the same time (30 is +12V
unswitched)
87b feeds +12V to both fuel pumps (thick gray/red wire)
87 feeds +12V to injectors (green wire) and (blue/red) wire to lambda sensor
pre heat.
ECM pin 9 connects to main fuel injection relay (87) and through turbo
switch to fuel pump relay terminal 86
ECM pin 17 connects to fuel pump relay 85 (violet wire)
The turbo over pressure (break) switch cuts power to contact 86 (brown/white
wire), opening the relay and stopping the fuel pumps.

any manual is better than no manual

Oops, as pointed out, that should say "remove fuel pump relay."
Hopefully no fuel pumps were removed unnecessarily due to this oversight :)

Do you know if it stays on the passenger side, or wether it stays on the
RHS above the LH unit?
