When turning left there is a droning noise that appears to be
originating from the center right of the car. It goes away when the
wheel is straightened.
The chief suspect is the inboard drive shaft UJ, any other suspects?
TIA

worn CV joint or split boot would be a possible.

Sorry, I meant CV joint.
Thanks for the feedback so far.

My vote is wheeel bearing as well. I've had two go on my '88 9kt, and
it was a definite drone, and further, it happened suddenly both times
- and I mean suddenly, as in driving fine when I left the house, and
after driving 12 miles into town on the expressway, there was a
defenite drone when in turns.
Have also had CV joint go on the car too - that produces a clicking
sound - I was running very low on the fun tickets for close to a year,
and put off that job by weekly injections of grease into the torn
boot.

Hi Jeremy,
In my experience bad universal joints make a clunking sound but I have
never had one go bad in my Saabs. You should make sure the boots are
intact. On the other hand, a bad wheel bearing makes a droning sound that
is much more pronounced when turning one one way over the other. I have
had two wheels bearings go (both in the front) in our family Saabs. One
in a 900 and one in a 9000. You can go quite a way before complete
failure but the sound will eventually drive you crazy. It a good idea for
safety's sake to replace it early.
Good luck,

Worn CV joints make a clicking and cracking sound on slow sharp turns, worn
wheel bearings make a more continuous droning sound.
I suspect a wheel bearing.
