Just got a '97 900 Turbo with manual tranny and love the car.
However, the clutch pedal has to go ALL the way down to keep from
grinding gears.  And, the pedal is pretty hard to push in.  I know it's
a year too early for the hydraulic clutch but this is pretty stiff and
low.  Any adjustments I can make to bring up the pedal would help.
I don't have a good Saab manual for the 900 yet, any recommendations on one?

The self adjuster tends to stick and the cables go bad after 45-50K
miles. You can reach under the hood and pull the boot that the cable
comes through. Push it, pull it, you might free up the adjuster. The
stiffness usually means you need a cable. If you don't have any record
of the cable being replaced in the last 50K miles, I would replace it.

Another issue for these is the upper idler pulley and the serpentine
belt. Both should be replaced every 50K miles. About $80 in parts and
an hour's work at most. Replace it if you don't have any records since
they go without warning and you stop.

You can get a Haynes manual from www.cybertroll.com. Haynes does not
sell them in the USA but they are imported but cybertroll.

Hera's an option. You can upgrade to a hydraulic clutch.

For $400 and lots of labor I'll just spend $50 every 50K miles
and put a cable in :-)
