Air cond display unit 93SE

Anyone got any ideas on a low cost fix for the LCD climate control display
on my 98' 93SE convertible. The display started to fade about 6 months ago
(must be the bright Aussie sunshine) and now has completely faded. I have
been quoted $550 Australian dollars for a complete new unit. Does anyone
know of a repairer or a reconditioned specialist ?. The control unit still
works fine, just nodisplay.

That happened on my last 9-3 and it turned out to just be a duff
connection on the illumination bulb. I took the bulb out because I
thought it was blown, put it back in and the display worked perfectly
ever after.
