I've have just bought a saab 92x aero.I have no problem with it being
a, "Saab tuned Subaru WRX," as the WRX is a real performance bargan.
The saab changes are considerable; no longer really homely, bigger
brakes, WRX XTI steering, Saab seats, and quiter.
I don't care about the 92 being a real saab. The last real Saabs were
pre 1993 Saab 900s. Both the 9000 and lated 900s-93s shared platforms
with other manufacturers. My last car a 1996 saab 900s was a nicly Saab
tuned European General motors product. The Saan snobbyness from owners
of cross platform Saabs seems silly to me.
The 92x was steeply discounted, I bought mine for $22,800, less than
the Subaru WRX and a better though similar car.

No one said the Subaru WRX was not a nice car, we just did not want to
pay the price difference.  It sounds like a nice car and I hope you
enjoy it, just take it easy and keep your drivers license :-). I would
not buy a 9-2 now because I have a real Saab - a Classic 900. I also
have a NG900 and there is no comparison.  It is rather obvious what GM
did to Saab when I drive my Classic 900 after driving the NG 900. It
makes you really appreciate the Classic.

Perhaps you should thank us "Saab snobs". Your 92 was "steeply
discounted" because the sales were lower than anticipated :-) To loosely
quote GM - "No one is going to care about what is in the car, people
will buy the Saabs for the name . . . "   WRONG!!!!!

Hmm. The Classic 900 may have a lot of character, but the 9000 was the next
logical step. The 9000 CS/CSE finally got rid of the 'hybrid' look of two
cars welded together, it has a nicely integrated Giorgetto Giugiaro design.
Saab went their own way in on the Type 4 project, and the car is much more
substantial than the Italian derivatives. It takes the best Italian design
features combined with Swedish engineering. A true Saab classic IMO.

Hear, hear! ;o)

Cheers.
