LOL ! It took me a second or so to realise you meant reverse gear. I was
about to suggest you shouldn't take your Saan swimming.        ;-)

Well - some of the lamp relays are in there. I notice the brake light
relay 'ticking' from the 'glove box' when I'm sitting in traffic and
applying the footbrake occasioanally. It's the sound of the relay.

Back up ? You mean reverse again I suspect ? Same place probably. Maybe
you have a defective reverse light relay ?

LOL sorry about that

so u think it is a relay and not the switch? and is it hard to get to
the relay?

Which model ? which year etc. I have a Saab EPC ( electronic parts
catalogue on CD ) that'll identify where the relevant relays are if you
have a model that's covered by my EPC.

The EPC gives an index to the relays in the dash location but none are
explicitly referred to as being for the reversing light.

As this isn't a binaries group I can't post the diagram here
unfortunately.

When you select reverse describe exactly what the sound is you hear - is
it continuous ticking for example. Does the reverse light illuminate at
all or flicker ?

The reason I think it's a relay is because there are many relays in the
'glove box' location in the assembly that holds the fuses (  behind the
fuses ).

right when i put it in R the lights will flicker 1 or 2  times then
will not . i will try to get them to flicker after that but it will
only do it the first time.  the sound coms on kinda randomly but its
right when i let go of the clutch and it starts to move.  i think  ths
is all becuse  the 25A fuse for the sun roof  back power windows and  R
lights kept on blowing. so one day when it started to rain the back
windows were open and the fuse was blown and i was all out of 25s so i
just put the 30A fuse there all the tings worked but the R lights so i
got the 25 back in and it stll did not work.

and if it is the relay do i have to remove the top of the dash to get
to it ?

I really don't think substituting a 30A fuse for a 25A one will have done
*anything* disastrous.

As I understand it yes. I haven't had that pleasure yet on my own 9000 but
will do soon when the weather's better.

When I do, I'll take a look I'll see if I can identify a relay for the
reversing light.

thanks

The other day I listened very carefully whilst selecting reverse several
times. I couldn't hear any relay tick - unlike the one for the brake
light that's very audible. I suspect there's no relay for the reversing
light.

Maybe your problem is something else ?

Have you checked the condition of all the relevant fuses ?

Huzzah!

I *think* I might finally be on the right trail for my missing 75hp and
will be investigating next week. The game is afoot Watson!

(I too am tracking down an elusive problem. SAAB 9000 electrical bugs are
not entirely unlike a top drawer detective novel. Sometimes, I'm not
entirely sure I would completely enjoy an automobile that operated
perfectly until the floor pans and engine clip finally rusted out.)

> The game is afoot Watson!

(In reference to above - with nod to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There is a
most definite thrill associated with both the chase and final discovery
that is in many ways sort of appealing.)
