On my 97 900SE I have that big ol' Exclamation point on the display
lit up with SRS lit up as well.  According to my manual I have to go
to a Saab dealer and have the airbag stuff checked out.  Is there
something other than fuses I can look at myself.  It came on when I
was flying backwards in reverse and took off in 1st.  Did it too
quickly I guess (as I wsa in a HUGE hurry) and the light came on.

Disconnect the battery WILL NOT reset the light.  There is either a
fault in your SRS or it needs to be reset.  An Indy or a dealer can do
it.  I'd try reset first.

Is it possible for me to reset it?

Only if you want to shell out $2000 for a Tech2 scanner. Any local
independent Saab or Volvo specialist should be able to hook you up and reset
the light for a minimal labor charge. More $$ if it comes back and they have
to diagnose the problem.

What do you call "minimal," exactly? I've called two, and they go by the
hourly rate--with one hour (around $75) the expected cost... Despite the
many minor causes, the codes which spell them out, and a known default too,
they'll insist they have to review the system totally.

Some indies will not charge you to reset the SRS.  It is easy as pie if
they have ISAT and takes no time at all.  Okay, maybe five minutes.
