I have a 2001 9-5 4cyl. What oil filters are recommended? I use Mobil 1 Synthetic (or the Castrol equivalent). The local dealer sells a "SAAB" oil filter in a light sky blue cannister for almost $8. The local auto parts store is able to identify over 6 different oil filters that will fit from various manufacturers from prices that range from $3 to $7 (Bosch). Is the cheapest the best? They are the best. Correction: They used to be the best. ;o) Saab "original" filters used to be MANN-filters. Today it's a smaller filter from AC Delco (GM), also used by Vauxhall and Opel. The cheapest is .... the cheapest - unless it causes a failure and then it's quite likely the most expensive! Saab OE isn't the cheapest but at least you have a guarantee that it's specified for your car. You can buy either for a good price from www.eeuroparts.com. Order a few things you need and shipping is free. Yep, Mann W917, fits all B21, B23 and B230 series Volvo engines as well as Saab 900s. Useful to know that. I planning on coming back after Toyotas proved so stupidly expensive to run and maintain compared to my old T16S that I foolishly sold.
