The check engine light comes on intermittently. After a few annoying
months, I had the codes read and it pointed to the catalytic converter. But
I can't see the catalytic converter going bad after 50 k miles. Also, the
light goes off for a few days and then comes on again.
Any good ways to figure this one out? Is the code being read actually
pointing to a faulty device or possible a sensor?
Thanks.

I have a 1992 saab among others and my check engine light has been coming
on and off since I bought the car new. They are very sensitve and come on
for a lot of reasons. One ,to make saab rich because every time it comes on
you think something is wrong and you bring it in and they recylce it and
charge you 80 bucks to run the codes. I do believe on a 96 and up auto
zone will run them for free. If there is no problem you can disconnect
the neg battery cable and that will recycle the light otherwise just do
like over 1 million other people do ignor the light. I have for over 134k
and my saab runs great. Also I doubt very much that your cat is bad. I
would get a second opinion on that. best regards papa
