Roof might need some work sometime soon (the mechanism is fine the cover
is a little "wear and tear" in places). The rest of the car has had a
lot of work done.

Nice one! That's a very tidy looking car, at a great price. Even if you
need to spend a few hundred fixing it up it's still really good value.

I reckon so. Just needs a roof sooner or later, and the inner skin of
the bonnet has some minor rust he says near the roller where it slots
in. Better than the iner skin than the outer one I reckon.

Cheers.
Sometimes you just get that feeling that if you don't take that chance,
it is something you will regret, even if there is a risk of getting
burned. I had that feeling.

Always a risky business - used cars generally.

Anyway - the most important thing is that the bodyworks's nice. Mechanical
bits can always be fixed.

Looks like wheels are from a 9000 Aero.

...photo and description are good! You've even got a bit of summer left in
which to enjoy it!  Hope you can keep it somewhere secure - convertibles
seem to attract the attention of toerags with Stanley knives...

Nice one!

Not exactley.
but I won't keep anything of value in it, and will only actually replace
it when it starts to look like a patchwork quilt. Partly I'm glad that
it does look a little "wear and tear" on the roof. Might stop scrotes
having a go.

Yep, late 9k Aero wheels, with a spare set of 15" 900 twisted aeros too.

Congratulations Carl I hope your buy is a success. Having followed the
trials and tribulationns of your ownership of a previous C900 I imagined you
had suffered enough. To use the words of Oscar Wilde regarding second
marriage your purchase 'is a triumph of hope over experience'
Previous posts have mentioned the longevity of C900's, with a full service
history yours needed a reconditioned engine  at 180k miles. Surely with
modern oils this isn't as good as posters suggest?

There are lots of reasons why a car might get a recon engine. For
instance, in the UK oil changes are rarely done religiously, even less
so once a car hits its 5-7th birthday. It is not uncommon to see a 10-12
year old car with 3 year old oil in it. This is bad enough for NA
engines, but it's terrible for turbo engines.

The car in question had a full service history as prescribed by Saab. I
imagine that mentions oil changes.

Ok, true - missed that.

In which case I suspect it was done out of love. :-)

...when we bought our 9000 CSE (2.3LPT) the only way I could get the deal
past my Domestic Assistant was buy buying an after-market warranty which
stipulated that engine oil and filter must be changed every *** 6K miles ***
!!! And it had to be done by a VAT-registered garage. Moral: Read the small
print.
This is no joke with the price of oil being what it is, and IMHO totally
unnecessary - but I've done over 80K miles (152K on the clock), and I
console myself ( a little) with the fact that the car drops nor burns any
oil. Long may it continue.
Off topic, but have you noticed just how small and neat the C900 looks when
parked alongside many modern cars that are classed as "small" ???
Incidentally, some years ago I noticed my dealer was using Mobil 1, which
was kind of a surprise as I thought that they would use Saab-branded oil.
Called Saab Customer Service who confirmed that dealers have some
flexibility in the oil they use so long as it's the right spec...

Yours etc....Dunramblin....

As Grunff says, it is possible that, for thoroughness he took the engine
down for checking it and replaced anything worn.

Another possibility ism that although serviced everytime, that doesn't
imply that between services it was driven by a nun. It is quite possible
that a small coolant leak wasn't spotted, until one day it overheated
(between services), was ignored and resulted in a BHG. Other option
being an oil leak that resulted in it seizing (although then I would be
more worried about the turbo).

Either way, a knackered engine just means no other checking between
services was done. If the car was 1 owner from new, the owner probably
thought the only checks you ever needed to do was the services, I mean
that is all it needed that far.

And the boxes are notorious anyway.
