turbo boost on 97 9000 aero

could the wastegate have an effect on the turbo boost? someone told me
the boost can drop because of the wastegate. please help!

Yes, but it's the job of the wastegate to limit boost pressure to safe
values. If the wastegate doesn't do that for some reasons, another
system will cut off the fuel supply. This sudden loss of power can be
very unpleasant if you're pushed hard against the drivers seat during
acceleration. The unexpected release of elastic energy in the seat might
then sling up onto the windscreen.
