Does anyone know if anything special is needed, or should most 3.5" full
range speakers be suitable to replace the front speakers
(dash/windscreen) in a 1999 9-3 convertible?

cheers,
Paul

Paul,

I replaced the dash speakers in a 1991 900 - off-the-rack
Rockford-Fosgate 3.5" went in without any modification whatsoever.  I
did install inline frequency filters to ensure that none of the
low-freq sound got to the little guys.  Easy install, took about 20
mins from start to finish!

Whether that applies to your 1999, I'm not sure ;)

I replaced them on my 2000 Convertible with Infinity Kappa's 32.5s and took
about 10 minutes.  I believe these will fit your car also.

Some information about upgrading the stereo:

Also Google this group or search around www.saabnet.com.

Good luck

Thanks, ended up with a pair of JBL GTO 326e's - £30 and took me half an
hour to swap them over.  Let's just say Saab weren't too generous with
the amount of speaker cable slack that they allow you :-)

cheers,
Paul

If you ever replace the rear speakers let me know how that goes.  I am
considering giving it a go in the spring/summer.

I did consider it, but then I saw this which put me off a bit -

Wow.  Looks like it is beyond my skill level.

I do have the base system (no door speakers, but the covers and holes are
there).

I guess the next questions become:

1)  Where can I get this done?  ( I live in NJ not far from Philadelphia)

2)  How much should I expect to pay?

Anybody with any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks for your help.

Bob
