[Saab_c900] TRX tyres and wheels on early 80's C900's

Craig's Saab C900 Site - 22 Dec 2005 10:27 GMT
I've posted a couple of messages into the forums at my site and the SCCA
site in relation to tracking down sources of TRX tyres in Australia since
I've picked up a set of Saab's TRX wheels with the 1983 turbo C900 I've
just recently received.

Does anyone else in Australia know of any places (preferably in Sydney!)
that stock Michelin's TRX tyres apart from Stuckey Tyre Service (which
isn't in Sydney)?

The forum postings can be found at:

http://www.saab900classic.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=169

http://www.saabclub.org.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=499

Thanks for any leads you can provide.

Regards,

Craig.

Can't answer directly, but I am familiar with the TRX tires.  Just ditch
them and buy new wheels and tires.  You can get standard sized tire
wheel combo for the same price as a set of 4 metric tires and you'll be
way ahead once you replace the tires once.

Thanks for the honest input. A few others have said the same thing, however
since they TRX's are the original wheels for the car that makes them
significant. I'll try to find sources here in Sydney and if they do work out
ludicrously expensive I can take off the old tyres and just hang onto the
wheels themselves.

I hear they make great coffee tables...  ;-)

Definately, my coffee table is a pair of rims/tires with a glass on
top. You really want to have tires though at least on the rim on the
top, and one that isn't completely worn down to the cords, it gives the
table much more stability and keeps the glass on nice. It really is
quite attractive, even if it is more costly than a cheap one from IKEA,
and that is assuming the rims are free ;>

lol! a genuine 'metric' wheel probably makes a good talking point - it's sad
that tyres for them are so hard to get. At least Michelin is a very big tyre
maker so while they're making new TRX tyres there will be a plentiful,
albeit still limited, supply coming into the market.

Yeah Craig, you are going to get raped trying to find TRX tires. They
were very advanced for their time, but even if you CAN find a set, this
is a 25 year old tire design, and the tires themselves are a couple of
years old.

TRX tires there is only one you'll be able to find, Michelin TRX's...

The TRX rims on the early 900 Turbos were relatively neat looking, but
honestly it is just a waste of money trying to get the tires.

If you buy some brand-new 15 or 16 inch alloys which are easily found
for your car, and a set of new high-performance tires, you will be much
happier and it won't cost you anything more, and might cost less.

I had TRX tyres on a FIAT 132 2000 cc, the tyres were brilliant, but they
only fit special 'negative curvature' rims and come in metric sizes. These
tyres were also popular on 'fast' police cars.
