Hi there,
Can anybody verify if an automatic transmission 4HP18 (by ZF) from Audi A6
can replace original 4HP18 in Saab 9000 MY 92? Mine began having problems
with 3rd and 4th gear. Kick down is not working properly and while slowing
down to almost a stop transmission begins to vibrate similar to a manual
transmission in a high gear at a very low speed. It is similar while
accelerating from a stop with a transmission in "D" position. Similar
vibration occurs shortly after reaching around 20mph. While accelerating
from stop and upshifting from "2" through "3" and "D" everything seems to
work OK. Any ideas on how to solve it?
Many thanx in advance.

Don

Hello again,
I found out that Audi's transmission is different and will not fit. Any
ideas what can be causing mulfunction?

The vibration is probably a clutch dragging.  The lack of kickdown also
suggests a valve fault. The valves are probably rooted or a valve return
spring is broken. You will damage the friction surfaces driving it the way
it is.

As it happens I have a spare Automatic and axles from a 1989 9000CD 2.0 Turbo in the basement. I have been holding onto it in case someone needs it. It was working fine when it came out.

I'm not sure if it bolts up in the 1992 unless it is a 2.0, but it might.

Flag me through dexterdyne if you can find out it could fit.
