I'd like to try these plugs out because I've heard more pro than con
about using them in non-DI Saabs. Are the  Plus-4  #4418 plugs the ones
to get or is there a better heat range?
Thanks for any info,
Mark

Personally, I wouldn't. Classic 900s like NGK plugs. Fact!
Use BP7ES if you're a hard driver in a normally aspirated car, BP6ES
otherwise. You could try the cooler BCP7ES plugs, but they're more of
benefit for the turbo cars.

+2.

Platinum plugs are of no benefit in olders SAAB and can actually cause
running problems.  For the price of the fancy bosch plugs you can buy 2
or 3 sets of the right ones.

Where?

Stick with the NGK.  If Bosch plugs were better, with all the other
Bosch electricals in your car, Saab would have used them.  Marketing
gimmicks aside, there's really no point.  Stick with stock.

"Where?"

I've done Google searches of this newsgroup & the Saabnet archives.

Hm.  That's odd; I've never seen anyone on this group who has had
success with Bosch plugs.

Hahaha, right after I replaced the plugs in my '94 NG900SE V6 with Bosch
Platinum +4's (I didn't know any better), my engine exploded!!! Not
literally, but my timing belt snapped. Coincidence? :D

Yes.  Obviously so.

One that I came across was Ken Washington (hasn't posted to this group
since 2003) who   used Bosch plugs for many miles and was very
satisfied with them however I've read many other posts where Bosch
Platinum+ plugs are not recommended where  DI Cassette is used because
of the engine monitoring system is designed for NGK plugs and they also
may be more prone  to fouling

I've tried Bosch Platinums in a few different cars and never had much
luck with them. I always use plain old cheap NGKs, they just work.

I have a friend who tweeks his cars and has found that in souped up vehicles
with heavier duty ignition systems, the Bosch plugs can handle power better.
He has had Japanese (a Nissan/Datsun) and American (Mustang) that were both
done up with super/turbo-chargers, hd coils and distributers and MSD
systems. He has tried various plugs in them and found that the other brands
tend fail quicker.

But that is in more towards the gear head scene than the every day driver.

My own little comment,
Jeremy

Different cars, different plugs. There's plenty of evidence from Saab
users that the stock NGK work best.

I've seen some cars that would absolutely *eat*certain plugs.
Champions would die in a half hour in a '68 alfa (we were kids, we
didn't know better until we tried). No idea why they died, but I saw
it happen repeatedly. Autolite's worked in the same engine without
complaint.

Interestingly, what you were supposed to use in this engine was a
copper Bosch plug with 4 electrodes on the sides (sound familiar?).
Unfortunately you could only get them from Alfa dealers and they were
close to $50 in today's dollars. Bosch brought the same idea back with
the platinum a few years ago and started selling it as something
revolutionary :-)
