If it's like changing the battery in my 2001 fob, the answer is
carefully.  First of all, you've found the battery?  Because I had to
special order it for ours.  I had to take my fob to a jeweller and
after that put some tape on it because the latch wouldn't close
properly.  Anyway, get the thinnest, strongest probe you can and insert
that into the hole on the fob and push in.  You may also actually have
to use a thin flat screw driver to pry the back off.  Like so many
other things with the Saab, it's nothing easy.

2004 9-3 Smart keys are much easier.
First while pressing the Saab logo, pull out the mechanical door key.
Place the tip of the mechanical key in the now exposed grove (not the one
the key was in)
Turn the key separating the two halves of the electric key.
replace battery and reassemble.

Note: My remotes that were replaced under the recall seem to be much tighter
and require some strength to pull out.
