Good Luck to you. You seem to have picked a car out with the options
that everyone around here rails against. The dreaded GM V6 engine and
an automatic transmission.
The whirring noise is probably from the small fan that blows air over
the cabin temp sensor. These generally do run on for a while after the
car is turned off, but should eventually time out.
You can do a current drain test by hooking an ammeter up in series with
the battery ground lead (disconnect negative lead and make the
connection with the meter) while the car is *off*. Observe how much
current there is and then start pulling fuses until it drops
significantly. Figure out what is powered by that circuit and you will
have isolated the fault like a pro.
Guessing, rather than troubleshooting, can get rather expensive...
