I picked a review of a 1986 Saab 9000 Turbo:

"The engine is powerful, but there`s so much low-end torque that the rear
wheels tend to break into a little dance of their own when moving off the
line, even on dry pavement."

??? -:)

It's definitely fish-tailing, but it happens at the front.
I, for one, love it :)

There's a popular picture of the "SPG" which has had some obvious
photoshopping done to provide some smoke from the rear wheels :o

I have read another review, or rather a recap, of the C900 ... It was in Evo
magazine a few months ago, whereupon C900 drivers were described as "easily
identifiable due to well developed forearms" ... No, they were not saying
we're all w.nkers, they were referring to the masses of torque steer evident
in an on-tune example.

For want of exposing my naivety, what is torque-steer? 8-)

In effect, when you thump the accelerator pedal, the car tries to steer -
because one wheel effectively gets more torque than the other.

Here are some other handy links:

Often due to unequal lengths in the drive shafts and more common in
transverse engine setups.

Usually, the car will steer just one way under hard load ... With the C900
you get it one side, then the other, then back again. The effect is very
much like RWD cars fish-tailing when there is temporary loss of grip in
their tyres but it happens at the front. Very entertaining :)

Craig - I don't think it happens in autos LOL :)

I've always assumed that was caused by wheelspin... :-p
