Does Saab recommend premium fuel for the 9-3 (2002 and after) or can you use
regular unleaded?

Thanks.

The 9-3 will run on regular (e.g. 87 octane) gasoline, but there will be a
substantial performance pentalty as compared to using higher octane blends.
This is because the 9-3's turbo engine can achieve higher boost pressures with
higher octane gas before predetonation occurs.

Thanks for the response. So it sounds using the regular fuel (87 octane)
isn't all that much of an opton, I guess.

Actually, per the SAAB owners manual in the 2003 Linear you can use
regular (87) but 89 is preferred.  In the higher output Arcs and Vectors
(aka Aero) you should use 91+, but can get away with 89 in a pinch.
